OK... I LOOKED, SEARCHED.... didn't find anything from Dotty. But, seriously... tonight's the OSCARS! Where's our Live Thread??
I don't choose to criticize you for that... it's your right. If it works for you? Terrific! I just don't agree that the best way to deal with Leftists is, to completely withdraw from them and pretend they don't exist.
I engage.. and try to convince them of the error in their way of thinking.
I LOVE it when a POS movie like the "Promised Land" flat out BOMBS at the box office, costing Matt Damon a CHUNK of money! :-) And, I LOVE it when a low budget film like Soul Surfer makes a mint. :-P
I love Movies... I like music. No doubt, MOST of the people who excel at making both of these are liberals. It's a fact of biology, I think. But, there are also a bunch of people in Hollywood who want to make MONEY.. and, they know... the best way to do that is, make movies people LIKE.
They'll edit like crazy to stay away from an "R" rating... artistic license be damned... because, they want the AUDIENCE.
If they do it right, I'm not too proud to be one of the ones rewarding them for it.
I’m looking forward to your thread celebrating the transmission of the Plastics Industry Awards: http://www.plasticsawards.com/
Ignoring a huge part of American culture doesn’t help anything. It’s no different from not reading.
Hmnnn... sounds pretty cool. If I get nominated, I'll be sure to run a Live Thread.
Most likely, you will NOT make the ping list, RC. so, sooory.
All kidding aside, though, I couldn’t watch last nights historic extravaganza having had to change the air in my bicycle’s tires, long overdue, but perhaps you can tell us who won the Supporting Make-Up Artist to Supporting Male Actor Award?
You get more excercise if you leave the air out. ;-)
But, it's about as much FUN as life w/o movies...
Does this mean that Hollywood film discussions are taboo for some, but not all forum participants? Please clarify so that the rest of us can avoid your nasty nazi comments. TIA!
Oh, good grief... it does NO SUCH THING. It's a bunch of hand-wringing drivel.... It's OVER, we should all just pack up and move to our own island.
It was JUST 2 years ago, 2010, when conservative RULED the elections... We lost to Obozo by a couple of % points running a guy that most of us hated. ALL WE HAVE TO DO is NOMINATE a true conservative, who can ARTICULATE, unashamedly, our philosophy. Young people will FLOCK to the message.. if we can just keep the "harsher" among us from driving them away.
Oh... by the way.. as for all those Republicans who stayed home? Mittens got MORE total votes than McCain.... MORE, not less. The 4 million protest votes is a myth. We got beat by fraud, and by better ground game (code word for, FRAUD) in a handful of key states.
After two more years of ObamaCare kicking in, the electorate will be loving our message in 2014.
Fact is what Jane Fonda did during the Vietnam war, a war in which many of us lost friends and family and watched others we love come back to us hollow shells of their former selves - what she did was treason. She was never held to account for it and her actions in no way compare to other "poor Americans" you mention in your comment. I have no problem with loving movies or the Oscars, I have a problem with coloring Ms. Fonda with the gentler description of being a poor American as opposed to being the traitor she actually is!
Thank you for the scoop that Lincoln did not contain much violence. Now I can watch it feeling more at ease.
Thanks for review of Lincoln. War scenes don’t bother me but one on one physical violence does. Everyone is saying Lincoln isn’t too violent so I think I can sit thru it.
I’ll get a DVD from the library of some of these violent films and then hit the Forward button on the nasty scenes.
You said it, meg-- I watched the Oscars for years starting in the 1950s back when I was knee-high to Mickey Rooney. Bob Hope was always funny and the stars were bigger than life. As the years passed by it was Johnny Carson who made us laugh. Real laughs out loud. Then came Billy Crystal and he kept up the fun of Oscar--
Then somehow we got David Letterman with his "Oprah...Uma. Uma...Oprah. Have you kids met Keanu?" and the only movie he was ever in was 1994's Cabin Boy, with Chris Elliott. Next came Whoopi-- And Ellen-- And tonight we got Neil Patrick Harris who I thought was pretty funny when he hosted the Tonys and Emmys. BUT tonight he is not funny at all.
And the PC Politics is rampant tonight, even to the "Hand Up!" lie living on in song and dance honor Dr. King who I suspect would shi-- Well, I don't think he would be happy with the way his memory is being perverted.
Yes, the Oscars are nothing like they were once were: fun and funny without politics.
Lastly, it drove my old pal Peter O'Toole... to quit drinking--
So, true, sweet, sweet Bendy, and I had to die... to keep from going to it sober!
bttt
Best actor and actress winners played people with ALS and Alzheimer’s, respectively.
I guess that sick trump gay.
There was a live thread right here:
And, yes, it pales to the Oscar threads of 10+ years ago where there'd be over a thousand posts by this time.
There you go!
“Birdman”...hmmm. I like Michael Keaton, I’ll probably watch it sooner or later.
“American Sniper” won 1 award I think, “Budapest” 2.
Whatever. When you look back at who wins and loses after a couple years, often the “winner” was clearly the wrong choice.
