Danica Patrick backed up her fast practice speeds during NASCAR Sprint Cup Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday, taking the pole position for the race.
Patrick was the eighth to go out in the session and knocked teammate and Stewart-Haas Racing team co-owner Tony Stewart out of the pole position. Patrick's qualifying lap of 196.434 mph eclipsed the 195.925 mph lap of Stewart.

Awwww
>>It doesnt take much effort to drive 130mph in the rain or otherwise on a dedicated roadway.
It can. One of the best F1 drivers in the world, taking the car into the wall because of a little rain, Fernando Alonso, Fuji 2007, full wet tires.

NASCAR doesn’t even race in the rain, mostly because it is darn dangerous.
I searched too and could not find it. It was in autoweek.
If they really kicked drivers out for that, Dale Earnhardt would not have lasted 5 years in the sport. The crash that took his life was him attempting to make someone loose control and not be able to catch his son on the last lap of a race.
Remember that before they set up the chicanes on the Mulsane Straight at 24 huers du Mans, some prototype teams would opt for low downforce and would hit 270mph on the rough straight. With many tire failures!
she came out and said he did it
As several others have pointed out, so have other drivers.
I remember a story of someone, might have been Roger Penske but I’m not sure, trying out a new wing configuration on an endurance car. The new wing was pretty large and someone pointed out to him that the wing would probably not be allowed. The response: “I wouldn’t WANT this wing at LeMans!”
I used to live in Melbourne, FL and have probably attended over 20 of the 24 hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring Races. Also other IMSA races at Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa and Del Mar, CA. Nascar also at Darlington. Indy at Inianolplis and Miami. F1 at Indy.
I was at the Sebring race where all the prototypes broke and the 935 pulled out of a German museum won overall.
I was also at Sebring and sitting in my car right next to the track in the Porsche Paddock right after the last turn onto the front straight when a 962 hit the wall and flipped over the fence and landed about 5 ft in front of my car!
RULES Gentlemen!! We have rules for this sort of thing, do we not?
MERCY!!!!!
20 df, 20, 20 hubba hubba!!!
i've been to every major race here at the Glen since before i was born as i have a picture of my mother pregnant with me at the Sports Car Grand Prix in 1954
but i haven't been to a NASCAR race here since Dale died
I forgot to add that I have been to numerous Daytona 500 races of old and Firecracker 400 with the Paul Revere night race.
When you said “Since Dale Died” I am guessing that you mean Dale Earnhart? I was at a Daytona 500 party here in Colorado and all were number 3 fans. The accident did not look spectacular, but the hit angle looked really bad to me. The next morning was the bad news.
That’s her best Beyoncé face.
I’m gonna have to make a trek over to the Glen and meet up for an ALMS or Grand Am race. It’s only about a 5.5 hour drive...or motorcycle ride.
I doubt that she would be even the least bit interested in your "offer".
