Seem wierd, Subaru is traditionally LIBERAL and I am Uber-Conservative. We LOVE it thus far(220 Miles on it as of this morning).

Enjoy your Subaru and drive it proudly! I’m as conservative as could be and I drive an Outback and love it! I will have another when this one finally gives up the ghost. It’s a 2011 so that won’t be until 2021 or later.
In the next 2 or 3 years I will be shopping for a replacement for my 1992 Chevy K1500 4X4 and it will be either a Nissan Titan or a Ford F-150 Super Cab 4X4. Subaru doesn’t make a pick-up.

I saw your post 72 about buying the Outback. Glad you like it. Did you know - FWIW - Motor Trend named the Outback the SUV of the year a year or two ago?
Me? I bought the Toyota Venza. Its about the same size, shape, dimensions, etc. as the Outback. But M/T was told by Toyota NOT to label the Venza as an SUV. Who knows why? So M/T had to pass on rightfully (IMO) naming the Venza as the SUV of the year. My Venza has FWD, but the V6 and a 6 speed auto.

That's because that is what usually results if you fail to notice the start of the discoloration of your coolant reservoir. As the gasket starts to fail engine combustion gasses/oil contaminate the coolant till total failure/overheating result. I was considering a Forester at one time. My SIL bought a used Forester. I knew about the head gasket issue and decided to wait and see if the problem had been resolved. It wasn't. End result a $3500+ engine replacement.

Fords generally are pretty comfortable to drive. Good for longer distances and they do offer more engine choices. Mazda only has one engine choice that lacks power. It has superior gas mileage and a sporty ride.
Looks are important, but a matter of taste. If you are looking for comfort and a little more power go with the Ford. If you want something a little more sporty that gives better MPG go with the Mazda.
Or go with what you like and don’t listen to anonymous internet users:-)

I love Nissans. I do. But I would not advise buying a Titan. It’s the same truck they built 12 years ago. They have freshened up a few things, but it is basically no different than the 2004 models. It’s never been restyled. A few years ago, Nissan was even thinking of just discontinuing the Titan and rebadging Dodge (gasp!) trucks as Nissans. Hoo Boy.
They only keep making Titans and they are the base for the more popular Armada SUV and Infiniti SUV. Not a real good reason to buy unless the discounts are at least 12K off of sticker as some currently are.
Now the Ford F150? (drool) I urgently want one. I tow a travel trailer. And I want (need) an F150 with the ecoboost engine.
Yowsa. What a truck.
(The only self-promoting wiccan in evidence here drives a Ford... go figure.)
I actually like the CVT in my Impreza, but then again I don't demand anything but ease of use and mild manners out of my work-and-back car. The thing gets great mileage in the Summer, but the numbers drop like a rock when low temps and winter blend gasoline are in play.

The only Outback handling story I've heard was from a friend who told me her uncle was pushed off the road by an 18 wheeler turning into his lane on the interstate.
His OB rolled a few times and when it came to a stop, he got out, unhurt, and then bought another OB. I'm glad he tested it like that so I don't have to!
I am making my new Subaru’s first “road trip” by coming to “Machine Shed(Des Moines)” and driving to Ogden and Boone on the 16th Feb.
As for my thoughts on what car you choose to buy, you a free man, what car you choose is no one's affair but your own.
Everytime you get your coolant flushed, be sure to add the special $6 bottle of additive to your radiator you get at the dealership.
Lot’s of people get their radiators flushed at Jiffy Lube and don’t do that. A little bit down the road and ffpffp goes the head gasket.
I bought my Ozzie wife an Outback in 2000. We leased a Tribeca when they came out too. She loved that thing, but I just didn’t want to keep it when the lease ended because we have a few funny things start to go on with it.
So, we still have the 2000 OB, and I do just about everything to it myself. Did a timing belt change last year. Was sort of mad I didn’t give it another 50K because that belt looked brand new. Just about everything on the Subaru is engineered to make it easy to work on, except I guess the dreaded head gasket. Have a job to do on it, just look it up on Youtube and you’ll be able to do it all yourself.
They run great in snow. BTW, this outback is 13 now, and looks really really good. They hold up very well. We definitely got our money out of it. If it died tomorrow, we’d get another.
I like the looks of the Venza more than the OB and both are far better than the fugly Honda CR-V, but I have no regrets getting this OB instead. I think repainting the grill will help, but it’s not as nice looking as the Venza.
I have noticed some strange urges since I've been driving it, though. Toward women. I think I'm becoming a (sob!) lesbian.
A boxer engine is what we old guys used to call an opposed engine(see BMW motorcycles for an example). The cylinders lay out horizontally. Why he wouldn't like them I can't say but some people claim the cylinders wear unevenly.
Honestly, I wouldn’t expect sports car handling from an Outback, although I’m certain it will easily outhandle any truck-based SUV. And I already own a sports car, so if I decide to expand my fleet I could possibly forego sports car handling in my other vehicles. :)
Rollover accidents are not something I spend a lot of time worrying about, due to their rarity, but it’s good to know that your friend’s OB protected him that well.
I love Subarus. Mine went 120,000 miles before it needed a $1000 repair; now, at 145,000, it needs a new alternator. That’s all. It has an NRA sticker, a US Marine Corps sticker, a pro-hunting sticker, and a Marine Mom decal. Perhaps all this has a protective effect.
