My wife retired her 9mm today.

Posted on 01/16/2013 6:06:55 PM PST by Farmer Dean

After reading the story of the mother who shot the home invader 5 times, she went to the store and bought a Beretta PX-4 in .45acp.Anybody have any experience with this weapon?

Can't go wrong with a .45, but there's aboslutely nothing wrong with a 9mm as long as you select premium self defense ammuntion such as Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P.

Actualy the 9mm and 38 special shoot the same caliber round. the .38 just has alot more powder (velocity) behind it. Same with the 357 mag. More powder than the .38 but same caliber round.

You can think of the 9mm, .38 special, and 357 mag as the .22 short, .22 long, and .22 long rifle of their caliber.

A friend of mine has one of those, and he swears by it. Beretta makes good stuff. I bought a semi-auto 12 gauge 13 months ago, and now have over 12,000 rounds through it without a hitch. The gas system is a pain to clean, though.

That situation had nothing to do with caliber, and everything to do with not being able to shoot worth a damn.

What?? Is this the lady in GA? I heard she hit the guy five times in the head and neck. I don't know why he didn't croak.

I heard of a camper that shot a grizzly with a 9 round clip of 9MM before he was eaten,.. shots to the head neck and body..

Every round penetrated.. the bear died a week later..
A 45cal is not a 9MM...

You have not lived until you went turtle hunting with a .410...

Now, I don’t know about boat accidents. But that tragic house fire - all that ammunition started cooking off, the firemen couldn’t get close enough...

Dean, my experience with Baretta was limited to military issue. When we dumped the venerable 1911 for the 9mm, we only did it because of the inventory - NOT because of performance. The Baretta had an issue with jamming; costs valuable seconds to perform immediate action on a stoppage. The 1911 was far more dependable.

Get the weapon she is most comfortable with. Have her test-drive a few various handguns, and see for herself what she prefers. You can’t go wrong with experience.

Excellent choice, as long as it is not a model C (DAO).

Took me a minute to find the ammo in the pic.

My eyes were drawn to that cross.

Screw that. .410 pump shotgun is the best choice.

She was carrying a HK USP.

What?! (HK-USP Bigot here...) Did she hate the grip or something? My wife hates my HK-USP9 and USP-45 grips, she prefers Beretta's too.....

Personally, I can't stand anything other than HnK but hey, she's the better half and she gets what she wants!

If you're talking the fire in Webster NY...It wasn't that ammo was cooking....they just didn't know where the shooter was and were all told to stand down.

Getting the neighbors out of there was a HUGE concern....

We're pretty certain now that Spengler (the shooter)took his own life pretty early. Our hearts are broken for the loss of our Fireman.

I’m planning on purchasing a weapon as soon as my permit is processed. As a female novice on the subject of guns, I need to learn all I can about different types, sizes, velocity of guns that women might use. Anyone recommend a good web-site to go to for this?

Kind of hard to conceal one of those in her purse.Plus, she’s not going to give up her 12 gauge for a .410.

Remington Golden Saber 9mm ammo will do the same damage to a semi-permeable mass as a .45.............Just saying.
A bit pricey, better than a buck a cartridge, but worth it.
Will admit however, it can't do the damage of a Remington Golden Saber in .45.

Actually the typical 9mm loading is hotter than the typical .38 special. There used to be a .38 special load which was really hot but it was restricted to only a couple of .38 revolvers.
