In a rational world, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray wouldnt exist. The very idea of launching a two-seat sports car named after a World War II ship powered by a truck-sized V-8 goes against every trend line on every chart in every automakers boardroom. Yet here it is, the seventh generation of Americas most venerated sports car, sharpened in all dimensions by racing experience toward out-hustling the best sports cars in the world. The question will be whether it can outrun history.

Well, I see they have brought the Aztec design team out of retirement.
They cut-and-pasted the ass end of the camaro onto the previous-generation vette to get this. Ridiculous.
They’ve lost one of the main identifying style elements of the vette: the twin *and separated* tail lights. The new ones are nearly identical to the camaro lights. The ridiculous little “quarter window” cheapens the whole car too. Vettes have never had those. And as noted upthread, the high beltline really adds fat to the car. They could have continued the drop in the bodyline along the window, and then they’d have a real place to put that rear air inlet.
Give me a C-3 anyday. Larry Shinoda must be rolling in his grave.
Hey, now wait a minute.
My ‘59 was a thing of beauty!
Do not like. The Vette has lost it’s character. I’m sure it performs wonderfully, but it looks too much like too many other cars ... Lotus, Nissan/Infinit, etc.
All that car’s missing is for those rims to be original Cragar S/S’s. Awesome.
Wankel Power!
Also, is the photo reversed, or is that really a RHD ‘Vette?
Originally, but in ‘76, they replaced the rotary with a V-8.
Government Motors. End of story.
Here we see the number one problem with modern sports cars. Proper airflow must be a priority at today’s speeds, which means design freedom is inhibited and all the bodies start to look very similar.
Front end reminds me of a slightly tricked out Toyota Celica.
More like wanker power
I hope none are ever entered in our car shows. I’ll have a heck of a time controlling my gag reflex while judging them. I’ve never been a ‘Vette fan but this has got to be the butt-ugliest version they’ve come up with yet.
I think I’ll stick with my ‘57 Bel Air and call myself a happy lil camper. :-)
Low profile tires are done for styling reasons only. They claim that it's for sidewall flex or whatever. If this was really true, then real race cars would do it too. Look at a Formula 1 race car, arguably the highest performing wheeled vehicles on the planet. They don't have low profile tires. Same for NASCAR vehicles. No low profile there, either.
As a corvette fan, it’s ugly. Damn ugly.
The rear end reminds me of that Cadillac CTS-V and the front end is an abomination. Whoever designed it should be shot.
The styling say Dodge Viper
Now that you mention it, the rear end does look like the Aztec.
That observation has occurred to me also and with extreme bemusement.
I especially hate to see a 4WD with low profile tires.
Agreed.
IMO the last good looking Corvette was the ‘67, although, I’m still partial to the pre-63’s. Owned a ‘57 for a while.
