As you asked, i've test driven both of these in the recent past:
The Mini was more fun to drive but the Golf handles better through the bends.
Out of the two it would be the Diesel version of the Golf.
.2.0L Diesel Hyundai i30....
Welcome to decision nightmare. :)
I was reading “The Fellowship of the Ring” to the byos last night and found myself phasing in and out of consciousness before 8:15. I read to the end of a page, gave them all a drink, and had us all in bed by 8:30. Tonight I’ll have to be up until around 9:00, unnngh.
Two lousy nights’ sleep in a row, and I have to be up at 5:00, no matter what.
The actual origin is in sixteenth century England, when the church was in turmoil and was attempting to exert itself and gain more control over the lives of the people. Swearing was blasphemy -- and brought either a fine or a penance. So instead of saying, 'by God,' people started saying 'by George' - and the church people couldn't do anything about it. It also became a useful prhase for women to use, because ladies couldn't swear, but a discreet, 'by George' was permitted. "Gosh darn" was another sublocutaion, which actually tiptoed around saying, "God Damn"
[pre] was used!
Have a lie-down and listen to The Stig chirp, if you can.
A letter bunneh is on the way to you - make sure you admire my tasteful stationery.
Yahbutsee....mine has 4-wheel drive, so I ain’t worried!
LOL!
I just decided to back up and back off. My daughter’s life is in shambles (she spent last weekend at a ‘resting place’) I underestimated the cost of the insurance by almost $60 and I’m having nightmares again. *sigh*
I may have to break down and write you a real letter... *gasp* How scary is THAT?

I’ve been singing this to Frank every night, so he won’t have dreams.
I think it would be way cool to have a car I could take diving with me.
Out behind the barn, boys, Out behind the barn. I got my education Out behind the barn. And then when I was only six My ma got real concerned When I said 'hello' to the Preacher With the brand new words I learned. Bates: What kind of words, Toby? Toby: Oh, you know, words like "Hecky-durn" and "shucky-doodle" and "son of a " Cast: (Interrupting) WHERE? Out behind the barn, boys, Out behind the barn. I got my education Out behind the barn.
“Train horns on a Dodge Durango.”
Well whaddya know ‘bout dat; it’s a mid-sized, multi-horned, rolling silver ego-feeder.
LOUD, too.
If that's the case, then you need a breakfast buffer...
Any car will go diving with you, just hard to get the regulator to stay put.
I have a blue Dakota a set of those would look good on. ;-)
Can you mail me my W-2 on Monday?
It looks like I need to save another $7500 before the end of the year. Should be easy. I’ll put half down on my down payment which is $12500. With my tax returns, the raise I’m getting in June at my 4-year mark, and some judicious saving of benefits and spare cash I can have that much money in November just in time for the dealerships to start marking their 2013 models down.
I calculated everything out with my BAS and BAH and I can save up a good 15 grand between April and November.
Next time we should elect an American.
Mini Cooper S Hardtop --- VW Golf GTI.
Darksheare will say VW.
Darksheare's father would say VW also, but strongly suggests looking at the TDI - costs more up front (he thinks - he only buys used ones that are broken in - meaning they have over 100k miles on them ;-) but gets a lot better fuel mileage and still has more than enough guts to harass those kiddiepunks in the Civics with fartcan exhausts... (and as you pull away from them in a puff of cleandiesel exhaust you can point at them and cast aspersions upon their manhood ;-)
Thus ends your two-for-one answer which you will note satisfies both of your requests..)
Of course in the end, it will still be your decision. If you plan on keeping it until it dies, again the diesel is the way to go. My $0.02 worth ;-)
I think I’ve more or less decided on a Mini hardtop. I may or may not get the S version depending on how much I end up saving up before November and how much they mark the cars down at the end of the year. Right now a Mini S with an automatic in it is running about 27 grand and a regular mini is closer to 23 so we’ll see.
I’m trying to save up half of $25000 just in case.
