Christmas Gift for Preppers
My fevered brain | December 8, 2012 | kosmickitty

Posted on 12/08/2012 4:26:42 PM PST by KosmicKitty

I'm looking for some suggestions from all my FR friends out there.

For too many years now, I give my best friend a practical Christmas gift. One year, many years ago, it was a pair of jumper cables when I found out she didn't have any.

Anyway, she and her husband are into prepping big time and I would like to give them something that they could use if the SHTF. I''d buy ammo, but my friend's husband is so paranoid that I have no idea what ind of guns they have.

They already have tons of food supplies, but I was hoping someone could suggest a practical gadget that no prepper should be without.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Here is a good, but long video on a “Every-Day-Carry” urban carry bag. Probably too personal of a thing, but perhaps could get them started with a decent backpack (I prefer getting a nice clean one at the thrift-store for $6 and shoving it in the freezer in a bag to kill any cooties first!)

But then could fill it with all sorts of basic useful things like a small flashlight, lighter, first aid, etc.

Whats a prepper?

Are they somebody that the socialist groups want a number and location of in a database?

I seriously believe a real prepper respects OPSEC especially when the takers and their zombies get hungry, yeah even zombies would want food.

But if I were giving any gift it would be something to make them disapear from the internet or at least conceal their intentions because all I see lately is the communists gearing up to raid the preppers.

A list of stuff from “Selco” of Shtfschool.com (good site)

http://shtfschool.com/basic-survival/survivalist-gift-guide/

“Christmas is around corner and Jay and me got together to look for some good gift ideas for you. This Survivalist Gift Guide has some gifts for new preppers or non survivalists as well. Giving non survivalists box of lighters for Christmas might be a bit awkward so book is obviously better choice. We tried to balance what is useful and what is fun and also added some crazy gifts.

Many more expensive products in this guide are “survival luxury items”. Nice to have and will make heart of every survivalist jump, but not really necessary because cheaper item can get the job done as well. It all depends on who you give gift to.

A new prepper who has very limited budget will be more happy about $30 machete, $30 first aid kit, $50 ham radio than one high quality $110 solar charger. This is much different for seasoned prepper with bigger budget of course. Simply because of other priorities.

In the end survival is much more about skills than equipment but we all love having good tools to get things done and some toys to play around.”

If they reload ammunition, buy a lb of gunpowder. Reloader 15 is a good general purpose powder. It costs about $26-$32 a lb. Using Reloader 15, you can reload almost everything from the .223 to the .375 H&H.

If they don't reload, then a brick of 22 long rifle rounds. A brick (350-500 rds) will run about $21 to $30. The 22lr will be worth its weight in gold, if bad things happen. With 22lr, you can shoot it or use it for trade.

If either of them smoke get them a Top-o-matic cig machine, a pack of small pipe tobacco and a box (200) of blanks. They can roll their own smokes then....will set you back around $60 and they will get a carton of cigs.....from there on out they can buy the stuff to roll their own at roughly $1.25 a pack.

I roll my own, takes 10 minutes to roll a pack.

An “I <3 Obama” bumper sticker, so they can disguise themselves as zombies.

Oops - sorry about that! Please note that he is probably NOT a Freeper. “I don’t keep any weapons, or any sharp objects in my pack...” To be fair, he makes a good point as he goes through airport security and various building security a lot.

BUT - a lot of good ideas, and GREAT ideas on keeping it all organized. Not like “hmmm - I KNOW it is in this pack of junk SOMEWHERE!!” me.

While I’m not going to art with them - have Foxfire 1 - 5 as well as the first 60+ Mother Earth News

IF you can get around the hippie dippy stuff, there’s a lot of good info in there.

Make them a rocket stove. My fiancee’ has made about 8 or 9 of them for friends and family. Everybody wants one. You can make them out of a #10 can and couple of regular cans. So easy and they work like magic. I think he got the idea online. Just google it.

Those little heat packets they sell at Walmart and Target are great for keeping warm. They can go in pockets or under the hat. I park one in front of my face to pre-heat the air I breathe in at night.
