This image of the continental United States at night is a composite assembled from data acquired by the Suomi NPP satellite in April and October 2012. The image was made possible by the satellite's "day-night band" of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), which detects light in a range of wavelengths from green to near-infrared and uses filtering techniques to observe dim signals such as city lights, gas flares, auroras, wildfires and reflected moonlight.

I wonder what that big cluster of light is in Saskatchewan... I think the big cluster you're looking at (sort of an arrow pointing to the NE) is Edmonton, then you can go SSW through Red Deer to Calgary. A few hundred miles east of Red Deer is Saskatoon, and SE of that is Regina (rhymes with ...).

I think Edmonchuk is a bit more west than what I’m seeing. I think Edmonton/RedDeer/Calgary/etc is the 2 dots with a sharp vertical line even west of SLC. The spot I am referring to is about the same latitude as Edmonton but even a bit east of Denver. It’s a bit diffuse but about the size of Chicago. weird.

Actually, now that I’ve bothered to locate Seattle/vancouver, it appears that the spot I am referring to is equidistant between what I think is Calgary and Minneapolis.

Thanks, I noticed that also. The line is about 96 degrees West longitude.

The most interesting thing I noticed was the large bright area in western North Dakota and eastern Montana. Looks like the Bakken oil fields are really booming.

I believe that is the Bakken oil fields. It looks like Regina is the small spot just north of there.

I became familiar with the song from Joe Ely's version and only later heard Jimmie Dale Gilmore's version.
Same song, but the two versions are so different, yet both very enjoyable. Jimme Dale is awesome. Including this one: Mack the Knife>/a>
Not for every one, ut one that keeps in mind the Lotte Lenia version.

Before and after shots of Manhattan after Hurricane Sandy. Nearly 200,000 people lost power in downtown Manhattan for about a week.
