Bing died about a month after this was recorded . . .

Bing Crosby & David Bowie - Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy 1977

. . . could've used a tad less orchestration imho, but interesting nonetheless.

There’s tons of great holiday music out there. There is a local radio station here in the metro Detroit area that is now airing Christmas music (WHICH I ENJOY for a while) but their play list only includes about 40 songs. After a couple days it gets sickening.........

Another of my favorite Christmas songs is "Star of the East," written by Amanda Kennedy in 1918. This is also an Advent song. The song brings a message of joy to the world of 1918, a period of hard times--as is the year 2012.

You can listen to it by clicking here.

STAR OF THE EAST

Star of the East, oh Bethlehem's star,
Guiding us on to heaven afar.
Sorrow and grief are lulled by thy light.
Thou hope of each mortal, in death's lonely night

Fearless and tranquil, we look up to Thee,
Knowing thou beam'st through eternity.
Help us to follow where Thou still dost guide
Pilgrims of earth so wise.

Oh star that leads to God above.
Whose rays are peace, and joy, and love.
Watch o'er us still till life hath ceased.
Beam on, bright star, sweet Bethlehem’s star.

Star of the East, thou hope of the soul.
While round us here the dark billows roll.
Lead us from sin to glory afar,
Oh, star of the East, thou sweet Bethlehem's star.

For modern Christmas music, I admire Michael W. Smith’s the most. My current favorite is The Promise in light of the persecution Israel continues to suffer.

341: Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates
342: What Hope! An Eden Prophesied
343: Prepare the Royal Highway
344: On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry

also there is another advent piece called “Ye Clouds of Heaven” - can’t find a youtube version as of yet but the refrain is as follows:

Ye clouds of heaven open wide,
and once again this advent-tide,
Rain down the Savior from above,
Who comes to teach His way of Love.
