PERRY TWP., Pa. -

An animal rights group is crying foul after its video drone was apparently shot down during a pigeon shoot in Berks County on Sunday.

State police said they are trying to figure out who shot down the drone and whether the animal rights group had the right to fly it.

This is not the first time the animal rights group has had one of its cameras in the sky shot down, but state police said this is the first time they have been brought in to investigate it.

SHARK, or SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness, puts its video camera in the air using an octocopter, also known as a drone. The group was trying to record video of the Wing Pointe Gun Club's pigeon shoot.

Seems to me that it would be more effective to jam the radio signal and let the thing crash. Probably not as much fun as shooting it down though.

One question though... The photo of the drone with the cops doesn’t look like a crashed drone. My son and I both have quad copters that fly from our IPads. They get mangled really easy just falling from 15 feet.

This is flying in the name of ‘animal rights?

Don’t think there are animals around a shooting range
but keep keep ‘em coming, they can help cut the cost of range targets citizens buy.

annoy the hunters and scare off the pigeons.

These types of shoots use pigeons that are released from cages.......

They ain’t hunters either.

Just dumbass trailer trash with guns killing caged animals for bloodsport.

The old “birds of a feather” adage.

Eh.

I know I could hit a 100 straight with that target. I’d bet doubles would even be more fun.

I’m wondering what the FAA rules are for drone operators.

At under a certain weight (55 lbs?) I think the FAA just considers it a radio controlled model and IIRC the only restrictions are no flying in the vicinity of an airport.

You would be absolutely correct. This ‘hunting club’ uses caged birds as targets. They release them and then blast them with a shotgun. This isn’t hunting or legitimate target practice. A lot of the birds are wounded and left on the ground to flop around until they are put out of their misery. These people give real hunters and target shooters a bad reputation. As much as I personally despise PETA and some of these other so called animal rights groups. I think in this one case they are right in exposing these kinds of groups. They have no place in our sports.

The whole point of flying it there "was" to get it shot down so the troublemakers could
add it to the list of their frivolous complaints. They have zero reasons or right to harass the club.

Killing live targets is illegal? I didn't think so. Maybe the Gov should close all fisheries too.
We raise all types of animals for slaughter so big-whoop if a few flying rats get whacked.

Of course you needed to add the Flop comment for effect.

I bet somebody comes up with a new ‘drone load’ like Hornady came out with its Zombie loads.
