NY Jet teammates rip backup Tim Tebow, believe 'terrible' quarterback hasn't improved
NY Daily News ^ | Nov. 14, 2012 | MANISH MEHTA

Tebowmania may have captivated the NFL last season, but Tim Tebow’s new team doesn’t believe that he’s a savior.

More than a dozen Jets players and members of the organization painted a sobering picture of the player who rallied the Broncos to the playoffs last season. In their eyes, he’s simply not very good.

The prevailing thought in the organization is that Tebow is nothing more than a gimmick.

“He’s terrible,” a defensive starter told the Daily News.

Although Tebow told The News last month that he has made improvements as a quarterback over the past few months, none of the people in the organization who spoke to The News shared that sentiment.

Both offensive and defensive players admitted that they hadn’t noticed any appreciable improvement in Tebow’s quarterback skills in practice since he was traded to the Jets in March. Tebow has been a poor practice player throughout his career. His current teammates echoed sentiments from Denver Broncos players a year ago about the lefthanded signal caller’s poor practice performance.

The 3-6 Jets’ dwindling playoff chances haven’t changed this mind-set in the locker room: Tebow isn’t a panacea.

Despite Mark Sanchez’s league-low 52% completion rate and league-high four red-zone interceptions, the players believe he should remain the starter over Tebow, who has accounted for only 132 total yards and averaged seven offensive snaps per game. Rex Ryan has backed Sanchez without publicly guaranteeing that he will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Left guard Matt Slauson, who has repeatedly supported Sanchez, made it clear that the fourth-year signal caller is the Jets’ best quarterback.

“It’s not even close,” Slauson said. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”

Kinda sad really. Looks like the culture of losing is pretty cemented in the Jets locker room. Slauson is garbage, who is he to talk. I would be (happily) surprised if we see Tebow start any game with the Jets this season..

The same attitude that Shaq and other “cool” NBA thugs had about David Robinson. Hmmmm...lemme see...what do Robinson and Tebow have in common?...

To give the guy credit, he's a big strong dude with some speed for his size and he doesn't seem to be afraid of getting hit. The Jets should play him at h-back / TE and see what happens.

Unfortunately they haven't axed for my opinion yet.

I wasn’t able to watch Tebow much, except nationally televised games, as Broncos aren’t shown in our area. Having said that, he seems to have performed quite well. As for this year, he only gets 3 or 4 touches per game, always on running plays, so it is no way to judge.

He’s got a can-do attitude though that seems to get him good results - in that way, reminds me of Doug Flutie.

I don’t think the Jets were ever a good fit for Tebow. Jet’s fans are too cynical

The losers will probably not block hoping Tebow will get hurt. These “players” sound like they learned the game in a youth league that didn’t keep score...everybody wins...MK?

Sanchez’ buds are just circling the wagons around him.

"The 3-6 Jets’ dwindling playoff chances"

Let me guess - it's Tim's fault, not the starters...

Someday the 2012-13 Jets season will be in a textbook about intra-team dissension.

Left guard Matt Slauson, who has repeatedly supported Sanchez

And also repeatedly peeled Sanchez off the ground, since his line does the second worst job in the AFC at preventing sacks.

Slauson said that if Tebow gets the start, he will lay down on the gridiron in protest after every snap.

Rex Ryan responded: "How would that be any different?"

He’s to small. He has a poor throwing arm. He doesn’t inspire his teammates. Sure we are losing but this second/third string quarterback is not the answer said ALL THE EXPERTS.

They were all talking about Brian Sipe 1980 NFL MVP.

It takes 5 years for a quarterback to reach his playing best in the NFL. To expect a quarterback, any quaterback do it quicker esp on a sub par team is whistling Dixie.

Sanchez threw the notion out there this last weekend that his “rhythm” was being thrown off, an obvious jab at bringing in Tebow from time to time.

The reality is Sanchez was never a good QB to begin with. He played one season at USC as stater, and while competent there was nothing in his game to suggest he was special. The 2008 USC Trojan team was a defensive juggernaut with a great running game. Never bought into the Sancehz hype.

1. The rest of the Jets suck. They're looking for someone to blame.

2. The guy they're blaming only gets a few snaps per game.

3. There's a good chance that Tebow kicked their butts while he was winning two National Championships and the Heisman at Florida.

4. There aren't any other Heisman winners on the Jets. (Can you say "envy"?)

5. Tebow will end up in the college football Hall of Fame in South Bend. How many other Jets will?

6. The fans LOOOOOOVE him. That's gotta hurt the big egos who aren't getting cheers when they walk on the field.

7. All sorts of magazines are still doing Tebow cover stories. The only cover story the rest of the Jets get is in "Losers Monthly" and "The Cellblock Gazette".

Why speak out about this if Sanchez is so much better? If he is so great, then it will show on the field. Why does he feel the need to criticize Tim and Greg? I love Tim’s attitude. And Greg is probably the smartest guy in the Jets locker room.
