One simple question and I know nothing of your motivations -

When “they” rule America, will they not also rule Costa Rica?

Pretty much socialist. I would recommend Chile.

I have a friend living down there part time.

She and her husband have an escape route planned because when TSHTF they don’t want to be foreign gringos among angry locals.

My very active octogenarian parents liked it when they visited, and considered moving there, but now they're considering Uruguay.

I'm hoping to link up with Michael Strong's Free City project.

Good choice. Lots of former Mid-Westerners live there now. Lots of vegetables, clean roadsides, and high school attendance.

Costa Rica and Belize are worth your while looking into.

As Obamanation Communism continues its cancerous spread throughout the former United States of America, there will an increase in ex-patriots to Central America.

If you have actually made it far enough to retire, then you should just go while you can and spare us the histrionics.

The real challenge for most people is to get where you are in our current climate. Begone and don’t look back, but also don’t bitch about the fact that you actually get to retire.

My Sister and BIL decided to retire to Costa Rica. They are seasoned world travelers and by no means gullible.

Despite that, they got conned out of $10,000 by some real estate agent there. They hired a lawyer but never got anything back.

Just be careful

Problem is, Islamists are everywhere. Even Abu Sayaaf in the Philippines. But some of the ladies are cute.

A buddy of mine sold his house and orange grove down there after 15 years. The political and financial climate had changed. My daughter vacations there (west coast) every year. Depends on what you are looking for. Nicaragua and Ecuador are great alternatives.

Beautiful, friendly country! But...socialized medicine; nationalized telephone service that, while cheap, is not necessarily reliable (gee, you get what you pay for); no military because they “know the U.S. will protect us;” etc., etc., etc.

I have family there and LOVE to visit, but not sure I’d actually want to live there. My cousin and her husband fork out big bucks for private insurance for themselves and their family. They like the coverage and care really well, but...$$$.

Again, beautiful country. Definitely worth considering for retirement!

FR used to mock liberals for huffily threatening to move to France or Canada when an election didn’t go their way.

But if you’re going to be a quitter, why not take the easy path and go hardcore prepper? Just build a hideyhole stocked with C rations and bug out there, or daydream about bugging out there. You get the satisfaction of saying to hell with America without the inconvenience of actually packing up and leaving.

Can you take your FN-FAL and a dozen 20 round mags and a case of ammo there legally? If not, why the hell would you want to move there.

From citizen to subject seems like a pretty big downgrade. Hell, you can move to Chicago and get the same deal.

No thanks!

I’ve lived around the world...there’s no place like the US of A.

No matter how dissatisfied you are with the politics and direction of the country you might consider a long term rental before you sell the farm and move.
