Washington state legalizes marijuana

Posted on 11/06/2012 9:36:26 PM PST by djf

I-502, a voter initiative designed to legalize the possession and personal use of Marijuana, appears to have passed.

With 50% of the statewide votes counted, the initiative leads with a 55% to 45% approval rating.

Up to one ounce of marijuana, grown at state-licensed facilities, and sold (and TAXED!) at state retail locations, will now be allowed.

There will be standards set for driving while impaired, as well as a zero-tolerance policy for persons under 21.

It is estimated it will take about a year for all the machinery to get set up before people can buy retail hooch!

Negotiations are expected between the state law and the federal level.

What I didn’t explain is that the reason that marijuana is a Gateway is because of parental attitudes, that the marijuana is harmless. You cannot deny that, that is the attitude of marijuana users, and they just don’t take it seriously when their kids start doing it, or selling it to other kids.

When my oldest daughter was in school, it started in sixth grade, when my youngest was in school, their was a fourth grade girl selling the marijuana from her Dad’s stash. That girl’s mother ran for county auditor this year. She would have been in charge of the elections.

You champion smoking pot, and I should be concerned with what you think? Try being honest with yourself, and you won't need me to give you reasons against the nasty little mind sucking drug pot, called pot because it makes those who smoke it go to pot mentally and most detrimentally, spiritually, as their lives become influenced by the demons they welcome in through altering their minds and perceptions of reality.

Until you stop worshiping at the alter of a filthy drug you will not be prepared for the truth about it. And we know that the potties have all kinds of defenses to counter the truth about the filthy little drug, so no matter how much evidence is presented you will choice to believe their side, because likely you love being a pothead. There is plenty of evidence and all you have to do is google it, if you want to. Until you get fed up with being a pothead, if you do, you are not ready to accept the truth. The truth is that pot is a filthy life altering, mind altering, spiritual altering, rotten drug. Until you are ready to accept this you will continue on being a mouth piece from the pit of hell.

The gateway claim is nonsense - research shows that the correlation between earlier marijuana use and later use of other drugs can be explained by a "common-factor" model, that is, a third factor that causes both results, such as individuals' opportunities and unique propensities to use drugs, or mor broadly a social or psychological predisposition towards anti-social behaviour. (http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB6010/index1.html, http://rds.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs2/hors253.pdf)

What I didn’t explain is that the reason that marijuana is a Gateway is because of parental attitudes, that the marijuana is harmless.

How would that make it a gateway to harder drugs? I don't see the connection.

You cannot deny that, that is the attitude of marijuana users

I expect that it's the attitude of SOME marijuana-using parents; I have no reason to think it's the attitude of ALL marijuana-using parents.

I see I forgot to mention that the same sort of correlation between earlier marijuana and later harder drugs also exists between earlier alcohol and tobacco and later illegal drugs - so if marijuana is a "gateway" so are alcohol and tobacco.

Since you stated earlier that "there are just as many parents who allow teenagers to drink alcohol" I take it you agree that alcohol is also a gateway.

It is likely smoking pot and doing drugs that is one of the major openings for delusional demons to enter into these people’s lives.

Does that include using the mind-altering drug alcohol?

No.

How do we know this is so?

Common sense for one.

The battle cry of those too lazy to substantiate their claims.

You champion smoking pot

False - I champion the freedom of adults to use alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana. My recommendation to others is to use none of these harmful substances, just as I myself use none of them.

and I should be concerned with what you think?

Are you concerned with what readers of this thread think about your persistent refusal to substantiate your claims?

There is plenty of evidence and all you have to do is google it, if you want to.

I'm not going to do your homework for you; in the arena of reasoned debate, the burden of proof is on the party making the claim.

The truth is that pot is a filthy life altering, mind altering, spiritual altering, rotten drug.

Yet you claim, with no evidence, that the mind-altering drug alcohol is not.

Freedom is the key and it amazes me actually that people here would side with Obama's drug czars on their power trips.

Yet the huge sized sugary drinks being denied to NYers is probably cause for outrage here..

can you hear the fear?

"“Those pressuring the Justice Department to act precipitously are using the same rhetoric and arguments they have used for decades, defending federal policies that have neither ended the illegal trade in marijuana nor alleviated the violence and danger that arises from the black market.”

Oh, yes it was - and not a single one of the FReepers who have argued against legalized drugs on the basis of medical costs showed up on the soda threads to say that medical costs justified that ban.

LOL, hypocrites.

Just as an aside, HULA has an enormously funny SNL video with Blooomberg and Christie talking about the hurricane. It gives credit to the ban on large sugary drinks for not causing New Yorkers to become huge balloons and float away in the flooding, something like that.

Well, I think that the dumbed down population is the reason that Obama won the election, whether or not the dumbed down population is traceable to early marijuana use is debatable. One thing is for certain, though. the US population is not getting smarter and if early marijuana use can permanently lower the IQ of young people by 8 points, we cannot afford to stand idly by and let that happen.
