For love or luck's sake, Notre Dame will find way to BCS title game
Sporting News ^ | November 5, 2012 | David Whitley

Republicans say polls favoring Barack Obama are rigged. Democrats say polls showing Mitt Romney will win are a joke.

I say any poll indicating Notre Dame won’t play for the national championship cannot be taken seriously.

And yes, I mean the BCS. It cannot be immune to the insanity that strikes whenever the Irish are sniffing a title.

As always, I'm prepared for a crow pie if warranted, but in the meantime . . .

Nine-and-oh is nine-and-oh, even if The Irish have squeaked out a couple of those wins by the skin of their teeth. But I think they would be severely overmatched against ‘Bama.... However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves: I think Oregon is the legitimate Number Two right now. And The Irish still have to play USC in LA, and the Trojans, even with three losses, are a dangerous team.

I wonder if that is the same David Whitley that used to write for the Orlando Sentinel. He was the guy that interviewed me for that paper at a anti-Kerry Freep. He was a good guy.

But the Notre Dame thing is just silly.

No ND in BCS Championship game. What was supposed to be a difficult schedule, at the start ofthe season, has turned into the weakest schedule of the current undefeated teams. With the Big 10 going the way of the Big Least ND’s strength of schedule only has one ranked team so Far, Oklahoma, and one left, USC. Oregon, K State and any SEC team have far superior strength of schedules, plus as this past weekend showed ND will continue to slip as they play Boston College and Wake Forest, while the other undefeated teams play stronger superior teams. Unless the human element uses the demorat playbook and tries to manipulate the polling in ND’s favor. Likely BCS Championship matchups:

Oregon vs. Alabama

or

Oregon vs. Kansas State

or

Alabama vs. Kansas State

ND likely will be in Fiesta Bowl, besides USC will end the luck of the Irish this season.

Oregon?

Alabama will play Kansas State for the Championship.

Oregon allowed USC to score 51 points. They won’t catch up.
And I’m afraid that Notre Dame will lose to USC and fall all the way to 10.

If you score 60 points it’s ok to give up 59.

I am a USC fan and I have never seen anyone move the ball on them in my 45 years of watching them.

You may be underestimating the political pull, and the ruthless will to use it, that the Notre Dame football program has, and has always used.

Hopefully not.

Kansas State’s chances are directly related to Collin Klein returning.

It's actually pretty funny. Except for fans of Oregon and Kansas State, everyone else in the country wants to see ND get into the BCS championship game:

1.The networks, and advertisers, because a Bama/ND game will be HUGE
2. ND fans all over the country..the famed "subway alumni"
3. ND haters all over the country, and there are zillions..who want to see the Irish get squished by the Tide..

You are right about that. But I expect ND to stumble on their way to an "almost perfect season".

I’d rather see K-State make it all the way if only because their coach is one of the best out there. He does more with what he has than anybody else.

From your lips, baby, to God's ears.

That being said, I would LOVE to see Alabama crush the Irish like bugs. I'm just not willing for ND to win any games to get there. As a Tide fan, let me say this: if Auburn and ND were playing, the loudest "WAR EAGLE" you would hear would be coming from my lips. ROLL TIDE

Doubt that it will do much good.

Auburn has sorta sucked all the joy about hating them right out of the room this year.
