I think there is also a (small) possibility of rope-a-dope here. What if Trump already has managed to get hold of this information. He could just put it out there and cause a sensation. Or he could give Zippy the chance to come clean first, get people talking about the reward money, etc. He knows that he’s given Zippy some time to stew about it, and some time to make some more forgeries. Then if the documents show up and are fake, and Trump has the real ones, he’s got a HUGE story.
It’s also possible that Trump has let Zippy know that he already has the docs and this is just theater. In effect saying, “Your move, Mr. President.” Trump knows that there is no winning move for Zippy and can enjoy watching him sweat.
In any case, Zippy is now forced to either turn over *something* or else he has to answer to all the people that will hold him accountable for not taking the charitable donation. C’mon, Zippy! It’s “for the children!”
