(CNN) -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who served 18 months in federal prison for bankrolling a deadly dogfighting ring, now has a dog.
"I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet," he said in a statement released Thursday. "As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals."
He added that "our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family."

I am with you. He has behaved like a model citizen as far as anyone from the general public can tell. I am not sure how much more he should be punish or why. People still want to take him to the Gallows. I am very impressed how he is making the most of his opportunity. Many don’t get second chances.
I hope their new pet is a dog big enough to decide one fine day, to rip out Vick’s throat and eat him.

* If God can save and forgive Saul, who testified that he was the "FOREMOST OF ALL" sinners (i.e., the worst sinner who ever lived), and redeem him by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His shed blood upon the cross of Calvary, and turn that once vile, evil, self-righteous man into the apostle Paul; the man God in turn used to write nearly 3/4 s of the entire New Testament, then God can SAVE, CLEANSE AND TRANSFORM ANYONE, including you, me, and Michel Vick from ALL of OUR SINS and make us into His dear children by faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His one all-sufficient sacrifice for ALL of our sin.
I believe Mr. Vick is saved and cleansed from ALL of his sin because I take God, who cannot lie, at His word. God keeps His promises regarding EVERYTHING He says in the passages above concerning faith in Christ and salvation.

Gang- banging is also a so-called cultural stupidity in alot of places so let’s just excuse them as well. And I’d like for anyone singing his praises to show me how the hell he’s changed.
One of the ways in which I see that he has changed is thathis attitude at his work is different. Another is that he continues to do work with and for the humane society even though he already filled his ‘required’ hours. He continues to speak out to children about the bad thing that dog fighting is. He seems to care about how his daughters view him as a dad and a man.
I consider those efforts to be what redmption ias all about...changed behaviour.

If he had truly accepted Christ he would do his best to avoid scandal aka he wouldn’t own another dog. Ever.
There is no excuse, but the man did his time. Do you really want a justice system that forever punishes people for their crimes?
Either a person is free to rejoin society after paying for what they did, or they never are allowed. In which case, every crime must be paid by the death penalty, including jay walking.
Would you allow a convicted child molester, one who had done his time and accepted Christ, to babysit your kids or grandkids?
Excuse me but I’m not Jesus. And neither are you. The only reason he was sorry was because he got caught. If he’s a Christian then that’s great. He should still never own another dog again. Ever. And this post and the reaction to it is why. It has caused scandal.
There’s a difference between public and private sanctions. Michael Vick has paid for his crime and is free from any more public sanctions. He has every right to live his life freely now.
Would I allow Michael Vick near my dog, that would depend on how repentant I think I think he is. My understanding is that he is raising his kids to love dogs as companion animals. That suggests he is highly repentent.
As far as your child molester question goes, no I would not, but that is a private sanction. If he’s fulfilled his public sanctions, he is a free man, just not near my kids. If he’s really repentant, he will voluntarily stay away from kids.
I love this draw man y’all keep putting up. I have a problem with him owning a dog. I didn’t say he should still be in prison. I didn’t comment on his football career.
Child abusers/molesters should not be allowed around kids again. Ever. I don’t care if they are forgiven by the State, you and Jesus. Never again around kids. I feel the same way about Vick. He didn’t just dog fight. He very sickly abused, tortured, and mutilated countless dogs, including his own family pets. I also don’t think crooked, thieving politicians should ever get to run for or be in office again after serving their time. I don’t think terrorists should get to own a firworks stand after doing their time either. Jesus people, think with that hat rack!
