SG -- "Was it Heinlein who wrote a book about the toasters revolting because, AI’s that they were, they determined that humans weren’t bright enough to run the planet and that the appliances would do a better job?"

SJB -- "Yes it was."

NnB -- "Wut?"

In "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress", Heinlein told the story of Adam Selene, the Lunar AI who directed the revolution.

Toasters? I don't remember that.

They must have made toast. Everyone does.

I always wondered what Dudley Dursley did to entertain himself between the event of Hagrid’s putting a tail on him and the eventual surgery to remove it.

You’d like that story. The character Wyoming Knott made babies, not toast.

Yes, I remember. I think I read it for the first time in high school. Surely someone made toast, though ... perhaps some children.

I can’t remember anything about toast in that story. On the moon, standard breakfast items would have been luxuries, and expensive.

I think they talked about plankton, or algae.

By the way, if we ever have to evacuate the Flying Castle under emergency conditions, the food supply and variety is going to be ... limited.

They grew wheat to sell to earth, so they had it there. And they raised cattle (and one assumes pigs, as well) so there was milk and bacon.

Chickens should do well on the moon. And tomatoes.

It has been too long since I have reviewed that book, but I do recall they had some grievances.

I just listened to “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” a few months ago and I don’t think that was the one.

I adore geodes. I can’t bring myself to whack a rock. They’re lovely just the way they are.

We went to the volunteer fire dept. fish fry and the peanut butter cake lady wasn’t there, nor was her pb cake. However, someone made an incredible yellow cake which didn’t need frosting but was crowned with a luscious brown-sugar fudgy-type concoction. Maybe that’s the caramel cake everybody was talking about.

Isn’t that the story in which water was at a premium and anything imported from Earth cost a small fortune so the Lunies relied on moon ice?

Great. Now I’ll have to read the book, again.

Lucky me!

Perturbed spirit is how I feel this morning, for some reason. I woke up a couple of hours ago with no desire to go back to sleep, though I AM tired. It’s going to be a long day, I think.

Semi-annual LDS Conference is on this weekend, so I will watch it. Maybe it will ease my spirit, literally.

Pretend it’s a debate. You could be the devil’s advocate.

On my behalf.

Heheheheheh!

I’m not good enough to be a devil’s advocate. Especially this morning. My brain seems to be more on the order of a side of grits.

Devil’s advocate ... or side of grits. That’s quite a choice ;-).

Nice day here, although I’ll soon have to close up before it gets too hot in the house. DP has taken Tom to the park to measure some things regarding his Eagle project, and then someone will have to pick up Sally from an overnight birthday party. The slender and elusive Bill has not yet arisen from his bed. I’m beginning to think he’s a vampire ...

I hope the conference is refreshing and inspiring! I plan to go to the library later: I have two books in by David Tutera, the fairy-tale-wedding designer. Watching the TV show doesn’t make me wish I’d had a different wedding, but I would like to be a guest at one of the weddings he planned!
