BATTLE OF THE TAPES
by Thomas P. Ping
Breaking A video has just been released by a right-wing blog which has now captured President Obama making some controversial comments of his own. In light of the criticism which followed the release of Mitt Romney's fundraiser video, it will be interesting to see how this is covered in the media tomorrow.
At the June fundraiser Obama was recorded saying:
There are 40 percent of the people who will vote for Romney no matter what. All right, there are 40 percent who are with him, who despise big government, who don't believe they'll every have need for some of the programs they want eliminated, who don't believe the government has a responsibility to guarantee care for them or anyone else, who believe things like health care, food, housing, or you-name-it, are privileges and not fundamental human right's. That these entitlements should be reduced, or in some cases, eliminated, and that the government should not always give it to them. And they will vote for Romney no matter what
These are people who think they pay too much income tax."
Obama went on to say:
"And I mean Romney starts off with 38, 39, 40
he starts off with a huge number. These are people who think they pay too much income tax. Forty percent of Americans already pay more than 90% of the taxes we collect, so our message of even higher taxes doesn't connect. So hell be out there talking about increased taxes on those who already pay too much. I mean thats what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people. Ill never convince them that they should be contributing more to help care for the lives of others. What I have to do is convince the five to ten percent in the center that are independents that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon in some cases emotion, whether they like the guy or not."
=========================================================
By now, some of you must realize what this is - it's exactly what Romney just got caught on tape saying I just edited it phrase by phrase to insert the opposites.
So for those Democrats, Liberal, or wishy-washy Republicans who are blasting Romney now for what he said, please tell me, should Obama be blasted for something like this?
I'd say no in both cases, because all this does is clearly define the block of voters that each side can't reach, and some of the reasons why. While Romney's estimate of 47% was, I think, a little high (I'd put it between 40-45%), everything else is essentially correct.
Romney was ALMOST right about the 47%.
ElRushbo made a good point today. SOME of those 47% WILL vote for Romney because they were forced into that group in the last 3 1/2 years against their will by the Obummer policies. They DESIRE to get out from under and stand on their own two feet again.....just the thing that R&R will be promising them leading up to Nov. 6th.
I’ve spoke my piece. I’ve nothing to add.
Yes, sadly, it may be approaching 47%. And as Paul Ryan, sounding very much like Alexis de Tocqueville, points out, we may be getting close to the tipping point where the takers outnumber the makers.
Yes, but you’re not really the intended target of the satire, if you already agree with the viewpoint of the satirist.
BUT!!!...but, but, has NBC autheticated it yet?? ;)
Nope, no satire on my part. Post the video with sound. It is your move.
If this is satire on your part, I am calling you out. Clearly state that your thread is satire, or ask to have your thread pulled. FR is not the New York Times!
No surprise.
That’s not nice.
Read post 15 — This post was already clearly labeled as satire and is posted in the GENERAL/CHAT section where thread police like yourself are supposed to cut more slack.
There are WAY more egregious vanity and other posts on FreeRepublic all the time that I do not see you complaining about so vociferously. Why this one?
Did you click before you read the entire label, and then have the article get your goat? That’s you fault, not the poster’s. What is it that there are so many Freepers in a bad mood tonight?
It remains simple to change your forum settings to avoid general chat.
” - - - - Satire is the last thing I want to see. Put “Satire” in the title so that people who don’t want to read “satire” can avoid it - - - “
BTTT!
Thanks.
