BATTLE OF THE TAPES
by Thomas P. Ping
Breaking A video has just been released by a right-wing blog which has now captured President Obama making some controversial comments of his own. In light of the criticism which followed the release of Mitt Romney's fundraiser video, it will be interesting to see how this is covered in the media tomorrow.
At the June fundraiser Obama was recorded saying:
There are 40 percent of the people who will vote for Romney no matter what. All right, there are 40 percent who are with him, who despise big government, who don't believe they'll every have need for some of the programs they want eliminated, who don't believe the government has a responsibility to guarantee care for them or anyone else, who believe things like health care, food, housing, or you-name-it, are privileges and not fundamental human right's. That these entitlements should be reduced, or in some cases, eliminated, and that the government should not always give it to them. And they will vote for Romney no matter what
These are people who think they pay too much income tax."
Obama went on to say:
"And I mean Romney starts off with 38, 39, 40
he starts off with a huge number. These are people who think they pay too much income tax. Forty percent of Americans already pay more than 90% of the taxes we collect, so our message of even higher taxes doesn't connect. So hell be out there talking about increased taxes on those who already pay too much. I mean thats what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people. Ill never convince them that they should be contributing more to help care for the lives of others. What I have to do is convince the five to ten percent in the center that are independents that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon in some cases emotion, whether they like the guy or not."
=========================================================
By now, some of you must realize what this is - it's exactly what Romney just got caught on tape saying I just edited it phrase by phrase to insert the opposites.
So for those Democrats, Liberal, or wishy-washy Republicans who are blasting Romney now for what he said, please tell me, should Obama be blasted for something like this?
I'd say no in both cases, because all this does is clearly define the block of voters that each side can't reach, and some of the reasons why. While Romney's estimate of 47% was, I think, a little high (I'd put it between 40-45%), everything else is essentially correct.
Umm, might be better to show the video...
Ummmmmm -— there is no video, it’s a spoof.
Ummmmmm -— there is no video, it’s a spoof.
If this is satire you should have said so in the title.
I also thought the author name (Thomas P. Ping) might be a clue. Seems like we got a lot of those Toms peeping around these days.
Telling someone off the bat “this is satire:” kind of defeats one of the main points of satire though. The intended targets of the satire need to be caught off guard, with their ingrained, opinionated defenses lowered, so that they can be shocked into a new point of view.
I do not find it amusing that you play a bait and switch on us. I do not need more opinions to read, and I dislike being misled on facts.
No one on this website is likely to need convincing regarding the raw deal the media is trying to give Romney, so you are in fact wasting the time of his allies, and doing little to convince his enemies.
I know you want to help get the ‘rat out of the White House, but I think there are better ways to do it.
“there are 40 percent who are with him, who despise big government...”
In other words, Obama is admitting that he loves big government.
Meh. I wasn’t shocked - just annoyed.
If you had been following events of the last few days, you would have caught the satire right off the bat.
I think it was a well writen piece that makes the point.
Chill It was satire
There HAVE been new videos of Obama found today. I just saw this one earlier, so I was primed to see one that would be even more helpful.
For those of you who want to actually see a new video of Obama spouting his socialist crap, here is a consolation prize. August 8, 1995.

Regarding your post to zencycler, including, "I do not find it amusing that you play a bait and switch on us."
Gosh!
The article I clicked on says "Semi-News / Semi-Satire" right up front.
The article is also posted to the "General Chat" forum which you can set to NOT display on FreeRepublic if your time is so valuable that you get baited and switched by labeled opinion. It is not posted in "breaking news" or anything like that.
Chat is chat, but it sounds like this really bothered you, so you should consider blocking that "general chat" part of the FR forums. (You might consider a little apology to that fellow Freeper also.)
I myself am not offended at all by the appropriately posted article, and I appreciate the effort by the author to provide some creative alternative ideas for thinking about these current issues.
Thanks very much for that, and also glad someone noticed that this was posted under appropriate topics (Chat, Humor, etc), and for the useful suggestions to those who want to filter out satire along with other diversions, and focus strictly on the news.
Heck; I think these guys have wasted more time carping about “satire” than they would have to have just quit carping and moved on. - I get caught by Semi-News, Semi-Satire all the time. - I think Obama’s made everybody ill as hornets.
This is a fake transcript.
“You Lie” Obama does not have this Romney style of delivery.
BTW, it will be easy to prove that this is not a fake: post the video, with sound.
