Need Help With Picking Out Books
9-1-2012 | Self

I need help...I am a Vincy Flynn and Brad Thor addict...my wife has brought home from the library, and like Dale Brown books, I see right through their liberal crap...it is hard to find anything to fill the void while Vince and Brad ginn up the next ones...help me if you will with some authors who can hold my interest.

Silva is ok, but I don't care about stealing a Rembrant painting...I like conspiracy, spy, etc.

If you’re looking for popular paperback authors for entertainment reading, I’d second Dean Koontz. His books are hard to quantify, sort of psychological thriller, murder mystery, horror and sci-fi all rolled into one with an undeniable spiritual angle and an innate hostility to bureacrats and socialist schemes. Some titles are tamer than others, some are pretty wild. A few will haunt your dreams if you read yourself to sleep with them. He’s a huge dog lover, too, a big plus in my book.

Sounds good! I love his books and hate to see them end.

Lee Child is new to me. BTW, heard on Huckabee tonight Phyllis Schafley talk about her new book: “No Higher Power: Obama’s War on Religious Freedom”. Ordered that tonight. Don't know how good it is, but it will be interesting.

Thank you, then I’ve read it. I liked that series of his; hated to see it end. Problem is I read so many books, I forget the names. :0(

Umberto Eco, “The Name of the Rose.”
Arturo Perez-Reverte, “The Seville Communion.”
Kurban Said, “Ali and Nino.”

And on the funny side, anything by Carl Hiaasen (sp?) You’ll laugh your head off. He wrote “Striptease.”

Bookmark for later...am in the middle of Mitch Rapp dealing with all the intricate backstabbing in Vince Flynn’s “Kill Shot”...

Yep, it’s a great story!

This is one of the most useful FR threads!

Some of my favorites have been mentioned: Lee Child, Michael Connelley, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor...

Worse author that might suck you in before you realize it is leftist tripe? J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts writing under a pen name)

I second the Dr. Siri books. They’re awesome. As for being a communist, well, he’s so darn human you kind of excuse him for the foibles of his youth. The novels are the antithesis of what the current fad for paranormal mystery has done to the genre.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned P.T. Deutermann. His books are all great. Try, “Hunting Season,” “The Firefly,” “Cat Dancing,” “Spider Mountain” and “Pacific Glory.” I have read all those at least twice. He has many other great books out there too.

Good recommendation. I like books from a different perspective, provided that I know about it going in.

Can't believe no one has mentioned KYLE MILLS. His books can't be put down.

And his particular dry sense of humor has me rolling in the floor.

His main character is Mark Beamon, an FBI Special Agent who stays in trouble with his superiors, because he always does the right thing, even though it will create problems.

About half of his books feature Beamon. He also recent wrote one of the Ludlum books, The Ares Decision.

A list of his books:

Rising Phoenix, 1997
Storming Heaven, 1998
Free Fall, 2000
Burn Factor, 2001
Sphere of Influence, 2002
Smoke Screen, 2003
Fade, 2005
The Second Horseman, 2006
Darkness Falls, 2007
Lords of Corruption, 2009
The Ares Decision, 2011
The Immortalists, 2011

No No. Adam Baldwin. That’s Jack Reacher.

Oh, thanks for that! I’m about to go to the beach...need something new in my kindle.!

Anyone interested in fantasy? Never read ANY before last year, and found Robin Hobb’s fantastic Farseer Trilogy. What a great storyteller she is!

I prefer thrillers, but she sucked me in solidly. After that, I read 3 more trilogies of hers. Great at characterization. Very imaginative.

I liked them better than Game of Thrones.

Ciao, Virginia
