Just need a little feedback on decent hotels in Austin which are not for the rich and famous.

Driskell is nice and in a great location. Not cheap though.

Do you have any particular plans? It might make a difference in where you might want to stay. If you’re just looking for a place to rest and go do other things I can think of some reasonable hotels; if you’re looking to be close to something in particular - downtown, Northern part of Austin etc., I might suggest a different location.

Hampton at Braker/Mopac is one I stay at frequently and recommend. There’s also a Garden Inn a little further north on 183 that I’ve been told is also nice. This assumes you’re wanting up north and not downtown.

As TB said in #3, what you want to do (and therefore location) can make a hugh difference in where you want to park the carcass.

” a fairly nice hotel in the Austin area in which one could stay for the weekend and be in a pleasant environment.”
Well, do you want to go to Austin or not? If so, by definition, you are not going to be in a pleasant environment.
