Dear Austin area Freepers, please inform me as to a fairly nice hotel in the Austin area in which one could stay for the weekend and be in a pleasant environment. Thanks in advance.
Driskell is nice and in a great location. Not cheap though.
Do you have any particular plans? It might make a difference in where you might want to stay. If you’re just looking for a place to rest and go do other things I can think of some reasonable hotels; if you’re looking to be close to something in particular - downtown, Northern part of Austin etc., I might suggest a different location.
Applebee’s.
Applebee’s.
R&R and take in a Museum perhaps.
Hampton at Braker/Mopac is one I stay at frequently and recommend. There’s also a Garden Inn a little further north on 183 that I’ve been told is also nice. This assumes you’re wanting up north and not downtown.
North is fine.
You’re going to meet with the GOP ticket? Wow! ;)
I think I picked up a 3.5 star on hot wire downtown area and it was perfect!

As TB said in #3, what you want to do (and therefore location) can make a hugh difference in where you want to park the carcass.
lol...no. Just want to get away. Would be nice to rent a guest house from someone for the weekend. No smokey, no drinky, no party...just disappear for three days and see a museum or something decent in Austin.

.... second that, nice hotel and Papa’s is GREAT! Plus at least 6 other restaurants to walk to and close enough to capitol/6th St for entertainment or Bullock TX museum...
check out austin360DOTcom for activities...go have chicken fried steak at the Broken Spoke and stay for the CW dancing...

Stay west of I-35. North and west is better.
