Labels and retailers have slashed prices on catalog releases, making them, on average, $5 cheaper than new releases. This has had a dramatic effect. Phil Collins couldn’t be less hip, but last week, when Amazon’s MP3 store cut Collins’ “…Hits” to 99 cents, Mr. Sussudio popped in at No. 6, ahead of such contemporary stars as One Direction, Chris Brown and Maroon 5 on the Billboard 200. …

I have to agree. Not much attention has ever been applied to the beautiful doowop music made by the black rnb groups of the 50’s. I’m not addressing the top 100 records played over and over again on the popular AM bands; but the groups that never made the crossover to white audiences because of racial concerns. Vinyl and pre vinyl 78 rpm discs, made for something collectable, IMO unlike the compact disk.
The music business killed the music business. remember all the bands and music coming out daily in the 60’s and 70’s until the record companies pick and chose who would live or die
I have “The Who at the Isle of Wight” from 1970 on DVD.....the stage was just the four of them....no pyrotechnics, no fancy light shows.....and it totally blows away anything else I’d ever seen....because the four of them were at the top of their game in their respective instruments, and their stage presence, they were the show, not the effects.

A few years ago one of my friends kids gave me a ride and was surprised that I like the Led Zep he was playing in his car. He had no idea when it was recorded. I told him his dad and had listened to the same album on 8 track in my ‘68 Cuda.
Zappa hit it on the head, in the 70s, the Record Companies got taken over by the former hippies, turned young hipsters who thought that because they were young and hip, they knew what music was cool and what wasn’t, as opposed to the old cigar-chomping guys in the 60s, who would go, “Let’s take a chance, and see what happens.”
What songs from the last 20 years will they be playing 100 years from now?

"Classic" stations play music from 30-45 years ago.
There are no "Classic grunge" stations to the best of my knowledge.
How often do you hear Nirvana - or any other gen-X music - played on any radio station, "Classic" or otherwise?
Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, Hootie and the Blowfish, Nickelback, The Gin Blossoms... nobody gives a ripe f*rt for any of them any more. Know why? Cause they're garbage, that's why.
We are running out of bands that can fill stadiums, I think U2 may very well be the last band able to do so.
Me and my Youngest daughter 14 now are hooked on Pink Floyd their old stuff and up to the 94 Division Bell. Music nowadays sucks. Dark Side of the Moon is still one of the top selling albums.
I always marveled at their work ethic. It was never fame. It was putting out the music.
A lot of people thought Johnny Maestro was a snob. He wasn't. He was a very shy person. On stage, he commanded. Go figure.
The Beatles are dead. Pink Floyd keeps going and going, as a classic group. Not together any more but their albums and Roger Waters Wall tour are still selling like mad. The Wall tour has been the highest attended tour in the last 3 years. He is 68 yrs old and he still gets up there and runs around the stage and throws a hell of a show. No Disrespect to you.

I’ve been listening lately (and re-listening) to Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
An album that consistently makes it into the top 25 of the greatest RNR albums ever pretty much whoever is putting the list together.
And no matter what comes out as “music” these days, Ziggy will probably still be in the top 25 100 years from now.

And when the tape fouled all that time spent to wind it back up tight...
