Out of all of this horrible tragedy - I cannot help but ask myself the question.
The girl who was killed was 6 and there was a couple with 2 children aged 4 and under [thank God they were spared].
Not only was it past the childrens' bedtimes, but the content of the movie was wholly inappropriate for their ages.
If the mother of the 6 year-old had not taken her, she would still be alive. Just sayin' ...
Back in the olden days kids would run and go fishing down the road all by themselves. They got their hands dirty. Nowadays kids get sick if they touch a germ that's common to most people around the world.
I don't think we should legislate what time a parent's kids should be home and in bed. I'm a true believer in letting the parents decide what's best for the child.
I never bought into Hillary's "It takes a village". It's a shame that some do.
I agree with you, HamiltonJay
There was a father whose daughter was hospitalized and his wife/family wouldn’t let him in the hospital. I think she was around 6 years old.
It was his night to keep the little girl so he took her to the movie. She sustained some injuries and was in the hospital in surgery.
He said that he couldn’t afford a babysitter, the cost was $15.00 an hour. He also said that the mother’s family weren’t going to let him have the child again.
Oh get the hell bent! You are an utter and complete fool!
This happened because of 1 man and 1 man only, your attempt to spin it otherwise is either evidence of how pathetically inept our public educations system has become, or an some sort of chemical imbalance affecting neurological function, or perhaps damaged caused by blunt force trauma to the cranium.
This nut could have just as easily done this at a 2pm or 8pm showing of a Pixar film, you going to throw your idiotic blame the victim crap out over that? Would I take a 6 year old to a midnight show? Nope, but to believe these parents did this as if they had some cosmic knowledge that doing so would put their child’s lives at risk is MORONIC!!!! and that’s about as kind as I can put your attempt at logic.
This dumb attempt to say this is somehow the victims fault is nonsensical! That’s like saying the girls who were working out at the LA Fitness shooting in pittsburgh got what they deserved because, hey, you know they should have been home with their husband at 8:15pm not out working out.
This action happened because of one person and one person only, the shooter, trying to blame the parents of these kids, as though they had some reason to suspect that something that has NEVER happened before would happen that night is nonsensical on its face.
Do I personally agree with taking little kids to movies like that at any time? Nope, but to try to play this blame the victim nonsense over that is insulting.
People are injured and dead, not just children because of the actions of 1 person and one person alone, your attempt to spin it otherwise, or that folks got what they deserved is beyond insulting.
Take that nonsense to DU, blaming the victim has no place on a site that claims conservatism and libertarianism as their cause.
Please tell me in 25 words of less why it's any of your business why they do. |
Agreed. I never took my own children to a midnight movie, but it never bothered me that other parents did. We’re homeschoolers, too, and, in fact, there was a group of local homeschooled students who went to a midnight showing of Batman the other night. I probably wouldn’t have hesitated to let my teenaged son go, if I’d known about it. The latest Batman movie has been receiving good reviews from Christian movie reviewers, and I know some people are eager to see it for that reason.
A tragedy like this one can happen anytime, anywhere. It has happened many times in the middle of the day. Heartfelt condolences to the family of the 6yo girl.
If you watch old movies, there is nothing comparable to what we are exposed to today. It is common on tv to see real autopsies and crime shows that offer gruesome closeups of realistic portrayals of death.
On 9-11 I remember seeing the plane flying into the second tower and both eventually collapsing. It did not appear real. It looked like a bad movie.
In Aurora, many of the audience members did not initially realize that the gunman was in fact there to slaughter them. They could not discern what was going on in front of them vs. on the screen.
We are exposed to so much, and it is especially detrimental to children. Instead of focusing on gun control after this tragedy, maybe it would be better to stop and think about just how far movies, tv, video games, etc., influence our society.
There is enough real violence in this world. Parents need to stop and realize that once their child is exposed, the innocence lost can never be replaced. Movie producers also have a responsibility to society. Yes, I realize that if you don't like something, don't go see it. But, in total, others being exposed to it also has an overall influence in our society.
We are all responsible for our own actions. However, people that run the entertainment industries should use some retrospect. They have a very heavy burden in what we leave to the next generation.
Actually, it is my opinion [and the opinion of many responsible parents] - and it is my right to express it ...
It's perfectly reasonable to take the parent to task for poor judgment. We have lambasted Clinton and 0bama for poor judgment, too.
Get real.
So? It’s the opinion of many OTHER responsible parents that you should mind your own business.
The decibel level of the sound in a movie like this would be completely inappropriate for the 3 mo. old child that was taken by the parents to this movie. The violent content of this type of movie was completely inappropriate for the 6 year old.
I don't want to be distracted by small children whining, talking, crying or kicking my seat during a loud, violent evening movie.
They do midnight showing so when the brand new whatever big movie comes out on July 20 or whenever, they do a showing at 12:01 on opening day, so anyone who is there can be among the first to see it.
The mother was/is in intensive care. She keeps asking about the daughter and no one has yet to tell her. The father was not allowed in the hospital. He gave interviews on tv with his back to the camera.
He said he made comments about what should happen to the gunman, and they would not allow him in the hospital. Very sad.

“Oh get the hell bent! You are an utter and complete fool!”
Oh my! Has someone hit a nerve? Why all the drama?
You mentioned the conservative/libertarian foundations of this website. Perhaps, you have forgotten of one the major tenets of both ideologies...”free speech”.
The individual, that you are calling names, has the right to express their opinion. Calling them a fool, moronic and blah, blah, blah, doesn’t further your position. It just makes you look like the “fool” here.
We are all in this together...no need to turn on your conservative allies because of differing opinions.
No, the discussion is not being held in the simple context of should a young child be at a late movie, the discussion is being held in the context of the kids are dead because of the parents decision. As though that decision was based on data that should have let the parents know their child may have been killed, and thats a ludicrous and idiotic argument to be making.
This guy could have struck a showing of Pixar’s Brave at 2pm just as easily, so to imply, and that’s exactly what this original poster implied, that these parents taken their kids to a late show got what they deserved.
ITs blame the victim mental midgetry that has no place on a site that claims to be a bastion of conservatives and libertarians. These parents violated no law, they did nothing inherently risky, and now have a murdered child, and folks like you and the original poster play this jello brained blame the victim silliness? I don’t think so.
Take that crap to the dung heap where it belongs.
This happened because of 1 person and 1 person only, the SHOOTER, and implying the parents are to blame in any way for their children’s murder is beyond idiotic.
I have never said this fool couldn’t speak his idiotic verbal ecrement, I have simply called it what it is.
Part of free speech is, you are free to say it, and have to take the consequences for it.
YOu are propositioning that someone can say anything and should be able to do so without challenge, and that again is a leftist argument. How folks claim to be conservative of libertarian here, when they seem so devoid of the basic precepts of the ideologies is beyond me.
Those are good things not to want, IMO. I don't want them either. But it doesn't answer the question I asked. It answers the question do you want small children whining, talking, crying, or kicking your seat? I'm guessing, like me, you don't want teens, adults, or seniors to do those things either. Yet they do, don't they? So take 30 words if it helps and tell me in why it's any of your business if a parent takes a child under the age of 13 to a midnight movie. |
Or just wait for it to show the next day why do some people have to be first just wait a day or 2. Personally I do no think that movie is for children no matter what time of day but that is my judgement for my kids.
Bringing young children to a crowded, loud, violent movie after midnight is inherently risky.
fyi--and unrelated to poor parenting choices--you have been so busy repeating yourself over and over, calling people fools and jello-brained, it seems you are not clued in to a second person of interest in the shooting.
