Rodney King's fiancée is telling friends Rodney had been drinking all day Saturday ... and had smoked weed in the hours leading up to his death ... sources close to King tell TMZ.

According to our sources, King's fiancée, Cynthia Kelley, is telling friends King was at the house all day drinking, and he smoked marijuana at some point, before she went to went to bed at 2:00 AM.

So he was trying to cool off and get a bunch of water to drink.

His mistake might have been in forgetting that he didn't know how to swim.

Let’s see drinking all night, mix in smoking weed, perhaps hallucinating and staying up until the wee hours of the morning losing good sleep. Add in some deep water and presto. Maybe that was some really bad weed he smoked (like bath salts) and got him all whacked out.

How long does it take from the time you hear a big splash to the time a person takes to drown and end up in the bottom of the pool?

I'm assuming King still has money, and if so, the authorities will need to do a careful investigation of this incident.

Immediately. As soon as the lungs fill with water a human body will sink like a stone. It takes quiet a while for gasses created by decomposition to float the body again. And here I didn’t think I learned anything useful in boot camp.

I think a body sinks pretty quickly. It only later comes to the surface when it bloats and fills with gas.

Doubt it was bath salts. I learned back in my college days that if you smoke weed after you're drunk, the effect is like getting hit by a freight train. You're almost instantly incoherently trashed. This was 20 years ago. I haven't smoked weed in many, many years so I have no idea how potent the stuff is today, particularly in California where it is practically legal.
