Miracle Whip Versus Mayonnaise

Posted on 06/09/2012 9:04:20 PM PDT by FoxPro

I am torn over this.

Freerepublic.com has the smartest people in the world.

If you were to make the best BLT in the world tonight, what would you use?

I am quite serious about this.

I like Mexican brands of mayo—it has a hint of lime.

Do you prefer salt or sugar on a slice of tomato?

SmartBeat. I think it tastes pretty good, and I don’t have to feel guilty about all the calories because it is only something like 10 calories a spoonful.

My DH, on the other hand, uses some eggless drekk from Trader Joes.

We use up a lot of refrigerator space at our house, accomodating everyone’s different tastes.

Speaking of cooking with mayo, a dab or two really helps the taste of any hamburger helper dish.

Another vote for Hellman's. The fact that you can't even call it Mayonnaise says it should be nowhere near a decent BLT.

My father always loved my mother's cooking and anything she made. Until the day she bought some Miracle Whip, I think just because of the non-stop 70’s and 80’s commercials. That was our first and last jar of Miracle Whip.

miracle whip, but we don’t have it here in the Philippines, and we have to go the mall to buy bacon or lettuce (not grown locally).

Using mayonnaise in recipes when cooking adds flavor and makes the food more moist, or helps to keep it moist. Two of the ways to add this flavor and moisture in cooking are using it in cakes and adding it to chicken or fish. Using any cake recipe and adding mayonnaise to it makes the cake more moist, while affecting the flavor little. Topping fish or chicken with the mayonnaise keeps it moist, adds a little extra flavor and can add a crunchy topping, if broiled or if used with other ingredients. Select a light mayonnaise, with less calories and fat.
