Anyone notice Guinness tastes different? It seems to me when they stopped using the "widget" in their bottles, the flavor changed. It now has a slightly sour aftertaste.
A year ago or so I was asked to leave an irish pub when I got into a huge argument with the bartender. I told them their Guinness keg was crap after taking one sip of a draw and I told them I wanted my money back. They gave me my money and I was escorted out.
But now I tasted guinness(bottles) last friday for the first time in a year and realized its the same taste. Slightly sour aftertaste. They changed something. I can't drink it anymore.
I'd be up for that if I could get the recipe for Konigsbacher Pils, my favorite beer of all time.
Then again, who am I kidding...I don't have the time, or the patience for that.
I blame Jim Thompson for the lack of time...lol!
I can't tell you why there is a difference, but draft Guinness in Ireland is very different from, and superior to, what we get in this country, be it draft, can or bottle.
If you want to try a truly disgusting Guinness, find a bottle of Guinness brewed under license in Nigeria.
When brewing your own from kits or using Extracts the brewing time is not the problem. It is the daggum wait (Patience) needed until a beer is ready to drink~! Darn that waiting time! But it rewarded with that first glass of delicious Homebrew. Try it.
Koelsch bier is from Cologne(Koelsch is “of or from Cologne, Koeln” in the local dialect). When I lived in Koeln, there were 21 local brewerys each making distinctive ales. Always served very fresh in 300ml glasses. My favorite is Paeffgen, only served at the brew pub and restaurant. Worth a trip to Cologne for just the Paeffgen.
Thanks.
I get it...Koelsch is kinda like Welsh...a person from whales is welsh...or kinda like the “ish” ending typical in english words. Interesting that “cologne” appears to be a french word, yet it is a city in germany.
It sure is good beer. I really like ale, except I don’t like belgian ale very much. Before I tried the Koelsch ale I never knew there was such a thing as german ale.
I like the idea of no shipping charges. I wish MoreBeer listed the ingredients of their kits and had reviews like like Midwest does. The Kolsch from Midwest is on my calander after the Copper Ale only thing is they recomend a cool/cold secondary. I will have to use an ice chest and blue ice to keep the temps down to between 60° - 50° in the secondary. I am keeping my porter in a cool secondary and it is a pain in the ice to keep it cool with the blue ice.
When I saw some in the supermarket the other day, it (Guiness label ) said it was brewed in Canada?
Used to be that brewed in Dublin was part of the lure.
Please add me to the list. I don’t homebrew yet but have an interest in learning more about it. Actually, would like any threads about beer. Thanks!
Guess you never tried a Perl. Horse piss in a can. Terrible stuff.
You have been added.
