Koelsch bier is from Cologne(Koelsch is “of or from Cologne, Koeln” in the local dialect). When I lived in Koeln, there were 21 local brewerys each making distinctive ales. Always served very fresh in 300ml glasses. My favorite is Paeffgen, only served at the brew pub and restaurant. Worth a trip to Cologne for just the Paeffgen.

Thanks.

I get it...Koelsch is kinda like Welsh...a person from whales is welsh...or kinda like the “ish” ending typical in english words. Interesting that “cologne” appears to be a french word, yet it is a city in germany.

It sure is good beer. I really like ale, except I don’t like belgian ale very much. Before I tried the Koelsch ale I never knew there was such a thing as german ale.
