Does this mean I have a legitimate claim to South Carolina?

First let me clarify. I do not support the UN demand that we return the lands to the Indians after we took it from them over 200 years ago. Problem is when we say that be mindful we supported the right for Jewish refugees to create a homeland after the Romans dispersed them over 2000+ years before 1948. Thus today we say nuts to the UN but OK for Jewish refugees to make the claim against the Arabs living in British controlled Trans Jordan?
OK but only if we get our beads and trinkets back.
Whoa, I envy all of you with Native American connections! My family only goes back to about 1630.
“That sounds close to an anarchist statement?”
No, it applies to any type of society.
There are many ways to defend what is yours. You’re thinking of only your own physical force or smarts.
What do we use to defend what is “ours”? Let’s take our house and its content, for example. How do we defend them?
The first line of defense is installing and using locks and perhaps alarms. That’s to keep “them” out.
If they do manage to get in, then our line of defense is “calling the police”, or if we’re in the house and we have a gun and we live in Texas, you can stop them with a gun.
If they get in and you’re not there and they manage to take stuff and run away, then the line of defense is you calling the police and the pressing charges in the courts of law.
If you are unwilling or unable to take those actions, then the stuff taken by the thief becomes his.
In the case of the American Indians, they didn’t have a strong sense of ownership, at least regarding land. And they did not value it greatly. So when the europeans came they were able to buy large pieces of land for a song. They also took a lot of it through force. The indians may have been willing to defend it, but because of the whites’ superior force they were unable to defend it.
But some indians haven’t given up as we find out from this article. They’re trying to get enough countries in the UN to be on their side and try to use diplomatic “force” on the US to get it back. If they succeed in getting this through the UN (which obviously they can’t since we have veto power), and if we don’t defend that which is now ours, then we will no longer own it.
History books are filled with stories like this. Remember the Alamo?
That’s cool. Sanberg’s gotta be right. Let me know how it works out for you.
"Rub a little schmaltz on it, it'll be fine."
The UN should give the land back to NYC and move...anywhere except the US.
I know the spin, a people without a land and a land without a people. The problem is culture of the Arabs. They do not like non Muslim and Arabs moving into their area, become the dominant group in the area and then by vote declare independence with them as the dominant ruling power. Given Arabs have this problem (last 50+ years have proven it) is it wise to shove European refugees of Jewish faith into the Arab population and not expect fireworks??!!!! If the US supports this aren’t we immersing ourselves into the conflict. If we want to make it up to the Jews, shouldn’t Germany be forced to carve out a piece of land as a European Jewish homeland as reparation for the Holocaust and not the Arabs????
Unlike the Paulbots, I do not advocate abandoning Israel. One does not solve a Holocaust with another Holocaust. Lesson learn is try not to get involve with different groups fighting over land with ownership and legitimacy based on how far one wants to go back in history. Can be a costly and bloody affair.
UN should have to pay trillions of dollars to all the women and children raped by UN peace (?) keeping forces over the years.
Back off, you murderous shoe wearing Apache wannabee!(LOL)
My grandmother never told me why our ancestors were called Blackfoot...I’m guessing it had something to do with why so few survived the genocides and purges.
Too few were left to merit a treaty for our tribe.
It was hinted that they mostly all died, and so few warriors were left to defend those of our tribe, that other tribes offered shelter as a mercy that was a new concept to any of the tribes.
But that could have been a lie, since she married a half breed Cherokee from an Oklahoma reservation as a second husband.
My grandmother moved her children far and away from the reservations.
Looking back,I think she made the right choice.
One branch of mine goes back to 1640. Just by being in the US so long would seem that we’d have Native American blood somewhere in our family trees.
Man that Elizabeth Warren sure has some clout!
Your family is only a block or so away (1630) from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, and the Kenyan/American interloper. Did Obama share dog-BBQ’s with them?
PS. My wife’s family came over in the 1620’s and some of them are still alive, or seem like it. They have the family bible to prove it. 17 fought for the Union in one Penn. Regiment at Gettysburg. Not sure where the Indian connection came in.
If I rub a little schmaltz on it, it will grow prematurely. That would really disrupt the post-bris luncheon.
I know. We Jews are such optimists that when a boy is only a week old, we cut off a little, knowing that it will grow back, and then some.
At a bris we sing, “Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow”.
Oh yeah, steal it, totally screw it up, then give it back to the Indians then bitch about the Casino they build on it and start making millions of dollars.
That’s why we’re the agents - we know how to take 10% off.
What would I be if my grand father was 1/2 Indian?
One of my FOs was a “ranch security”,then RLI.Then disappeared into SA for the pussy. I’m not buying it for a minute but consider him MIA until I here different. Reb Simmons.
