RAVENA -- New York State Police say they caught a man on a motorcycle doing nearly 170mph on the Thruway on Tuesday.
Troopers say spotted 25-year-old Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charleton near Ravena, gave chase, but broke it off soon after.
State Police caught up with him later in New Paltz when he ran low on gas. He was arrested and faces a slew of charges.
When he was taken into custody, McCarthy told officers he was capable of going even faster.

He looks the part. However, would rather see pic of his bike.
maybe he’s practicing...Isle of Man TT races start soon....just saying
170 is cooking. He’s young, probably decided he was gonna do it, no matter what, even if he ended up a bug splat.
I sure would like to see a pic of the bike
Me too. Hayabusa? I have had my bike up to 130 mph but that was several years ago. It is not worth going to jail, let alone becoming bug splatter.
I don’t mind his killing himself on that death trap. It’s the innocent more twists I worry about. I hope he looses his license.
Er...motorists.
My 1969 Harley starts to rattle when I go too fast... She likes it nice and slow, and so do I. I prefer to get my thrills with my leathers off.
If not hunkered down under a fairing the wind at that speed is brutal. Last two bikes were Yamaha’s the Vmax could do probably over 140, but never took it over 115. Scary. The older bike xs1100 I took up to 132 then backed off when I remembered I had a weather checked front tire. No fairing brutal wind.
Could be Haya. Certainly not Vespa. Out here just about the only thing they ticket for is tinted windows so he should have been ok. Ha! Until he crashed, of course. Hate to have to say it but the Oinks did him a favor (stopping him).
Wow! (Bad if they’re potholes, unless a 170mph bike just flies over them? I’m far too “chicken” to ever find out, ha!)
At 52 i know i’ll grow up soon, but in the interim i’ll still be cranking my Suzuki up to 150.:)
Sounds (and the photo looks) like an adopted guy from Russia. Photo looks Russian too, with perhaps some fetal alcohol syndrome. I'm glad he didn't kill anyone, and hope he can stay safe in the future.
Reminds me of the youtube video of some guy that filmed his commutes on his bike through Moscow. Insane speeds in VERY heavy traffic. Rumor is that he was killed in a wreck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XihQeZpwqpE Hold on to your hat (and lunch) watching the video.
2007 Suzuki
If you land crooked, it gets hairy... Anyone running this fast, regularly, likely has equipped his bike with a steering stabilizer:
Er....loses.
Insane!!!!
