In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
riposte or ripost (ri-POST) noun: 1. A quick, clever reply.
2. In fencing, a quick return thrust.
verb tr.: To make a quick, clever reply.
verb intr.: In fencing, to make a quick return thrust.
Example sentence:
"Asked about the situation, Rodriguez delivered a particularly pointed riposte that embodied his mature response to the entire situation."
---Sam Borden; Kansas State Sets Up Melting Pot; The New York Times; Mar 16, 2012.
Etymology:
From obsolete French risposte (response), from Italian risposta (response), from Latin respondere (to respond), from re- (back) + spondere (to pledge). Ultimately from the Indo-European root spend- (to make an offering or perform a rite), which is also the source of sponsor, spouse, espouse, and respond. Earliest documented use: 1707.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Re: Riposte
I’m trying to think of something smart-alecky to say, but nothing comes to me.
I have been on FR for some time now, so it might be time to re-post some of my more clever ripostes.
Barack hates to brag or to boast
Thinks he’s clever with a witty riposte
If they don’t program each word
He sounds confused and absurd
Without his teleprompter, Barry is toast
Umm, umm, err, err, umm, “Chope and Hange.” I mean, “Hope and Change.” “It’s all Fush’s bault.” “I mean...”
Riposte
Fencing I know about and everytime I put up fencing I get ripostes in my coveralls.
By the bye here’s a saftey tip...If you store barb wire under the bed, keep it on the delivery pallet cause when it gets loose it’s near impossible to rewind or even get a hold of. Just a safety idea for the day.
To you then, I lift up my glass & say- "Prose-it!"
Re-post....this is what happens when your post takes too long so you send it again because you think that maybe your computer or FR has frozen.

That’s ona count of having a frozen computer makes your fingers stick to the keys.
These days, we see a lot of ripostes on FR.
