No such thing as “safe” email without some pretty elaborate encryption being setup for both the sender and recipient(s).

You are living in a fantasy ....

There is nothing private in the electronic world. Even here on FR if you are a monthly donor and use your FR email....it ain’t private if anybody wants to know what’s in it.

If you want it to be completely secure, send it by courier. And then kill the courier. And the recipient. Then yourself, because you might blab too.

No email service is truly private.

If you use Firefox, get the Leetkey add-on and send everything encrypted with AES or DES. Your receiver has to have the key. Then, even gmail or yahoo is “secure” unless NSA gets involved. All free.

PGP costs money, these days, but is more secure as far as crypto goes.

Might want to check teh terms and conditions of the mail carrier to see if they allow crypto.

If you can deal with paying a whole $32.00 or so each YEAR... The I suggest setting up a domain name with email service with 1and1.com . You can have most any email / domain name you wish. Your email could be yourname@yourname.com or whatever. They provide a good online web interface and simultaneously a pop3 capability you can use on your desktop. I have several accounts with 1and1.com and really like it. Nice thing is they have a darned good Spam Filter built in. Security? Seems fine to me ...

download gpg
have all of your email correspondents download gpg
generate a private and public key.
send your PUBLIC key to all of your correspondents and required all of your correspondents send you their public keys
encrypt everything you send
require all of your correspondents to encrypt everything they send to you
when you've read the decrypted version delete it and save only the encrypted version.

That is the safe way. NSA can't break gpg encryption if done right. That's why the government hates it and tries constantly to restrict it, and have a government use only back door, etc. They don't want you to have any privacy.

Nothing is “safe” anymore; it might be “free”, but it isn’t safe, and “they” can decrypt anything at NSA/DIA.

Add one more to the “There’s no such thing as safe email” column. You should always regard anything send via email as though you posted it to a public message board. If you must send something by email, and you want it to be secure, use GPG or some other form of encryption. (GPG is the free version of PGP and can be run on Windows.)

Fastmail. Free but I chose to pay $4.95/yr so I didn’t have to see ads. You can even pay more.

You should have been supplied with an email address to go along with your Net service.. If not, check up on how much it it will cost extra (probably not more than $2-$5/month added to your bill).

I have used Yahoo for years with no known problems. But none can be considered safe. I have for years put nothing in emails that I could regret later, no paper trail here.
