Romney piling up delegates in states that Obama will win nonetheless in the 2012 general election.

Before I get to the thread title material, let me say that Bush is not going away anytime soon. Obama brought him up today with Medicare Part D and will continue to bring him up again & again.

If Romney praises Med. part D, Obama can say "See, Romney agrees with me that the first Republican president was right about the federal gov't..." as he said today. If Romney attacks Med. Part D as being big gov't, Obama can retort "Why is Romney attacking me for attacking Bush? Romney has also attacked Bush."

And the issue of whether or not Bush's policies wrecked the economy will not go away either. Obama will hammer away that Bush's policies wrecked the economy and that he is slowly fixing the economy. Romney will retort that Obama wrecked the economy and/or made things worse -- and round and round it goes.

The GOP will have to have it out once and for all on this in 2012. They will have to defend Bush's policies as Obama tries to tie Bush around Santorum or Romney. The GOP will have to convince voters that Bush's policies did not wreck the economy and Obama will have to prove that Bush's policies did. Romney (if he is the nominee) will then either have to embrace Bush's 2000-2008 policies or toss them under the bus.

Now to the following (and thread title material):

Does it seems that even before Romney passed the 200-300 delegate threshold, it was Romney on this segment at Fox, then another? Romney, Romney, Romney, Romney. Then Santorum on a show be it morn or night. Then Gingrich. Then Romney, Romney, Romney, Romney, Romney. Then Santorum. Then Romney again...???

Does Romney have his own room at Fox News? /s.

Before the 200-300 delegate threshold, it seemed to be "Romney is the most electable....Romney is inevitable."

Most electable, inevitable, most electable, inevitable, and all with a somewhat glassy-eyed look from hosts?

Romney won Illinois! Obama will win that state. Deep blue state.

Romney wins Maryland tonight! So what. Not a chance of taking it from the Obama column in the general election. Another deep blue state.

Romney wins D.C. Big Deal. In the tank for Obama.

Three weeks from now the headlines will say that Romney wins New York, CT and Rhode Island! Again, big deal - Romney will not take them from Obama in the general election. Just too blue. Not even close to being purple.

Most of these primary delegates that Romney is piling up - from blue states. Meaningless. An exercise in futility.

In the individual states he’s winning Obama strongholds and writing off the conservative areas as well.

Its enough to make me wonder if Obama isn’t working for the democrats himself. It would certainly fit with the Alinsky tactics of the rest of the left.

You sound like a pessimist. Every state you mention, you cede it to Obama. It’s as if you think that Obama will win all 57 states.

You realize the flip side of this is that Santorum and Gingrich can only win states the GOP will win anyway right? And states like Ohio and Wisconsin (and hopefully Michigan) will be battleground states in November anyway.

The truth is the more liberal the candidate the better they do in urban areas, the more conservative, the better they do in rural areas. There is no shock here, everyone knows this. Unfortunately, more people live in urban areas.

What is the point of going on with this? Romney sucks. Pretty much no one here likes him. Not many liked McCain or Dole either. We are going to have a dud as a nominee. The math is the math. Conservatives did not put up a compelling candidate this cycle and the result is the establishment hug-the-center RINO is going to be the nominee. I am for Gingrich (was for Perry first till he proved to me he didn’t have the communication skills for the job), but at this point I know he isn’t going to win. The problem is Santorum is not seen as a credible alternative by major sections of GOP primary voters that would have liked to have a decent non-Romney to vote for.

So what now? Attack Willard all the way to the election or suck it up and vote for the RINO and hope it is enough to at least knock Hussein out of the White House. I mean, that is where we are at now. Pointing out what a flawed candidate Romney is here on FR didn’t help us stop him from coasting to the nomination, and it sure isn’t going to help us defeat Obummer. In the end pretty much all conservative and non-Romney politicians, including Newt and Santorum, are going to endorse and campaign for Mitt anyway - and so will Perry, Palin, etc. So just how long are we going to go on with the temper tantrum?

Pull it together .... you’re going to be needed in November and I don’t mean to help Obama win a second term.

Thanks.

I live in California. I am going to vote for the Green Party candidate.

My hope (however delusional) is that the Green Party will get more than 5% of the popular vote in the next election. That way they become a quasi-official political party and can start being a thorn in the side of the Democrat Party.

I urge everyone in a Blue state to vote Green. In my mind this is a Win-Win: don't have to vote for Willard and do get a chance to wreak future havoc among the liberals.

Ed Rollins seems to think its Romney’s intent to cede those states to Obama. He said that he can afford to spend the money he spent on Michigan because he won’t be spending it here during the general election.

57 states. LOL. Classic. Don’t forget Obama’s boneheaded “Austrian language” and “breathalyzer” comments.

Now to the rest...

No, not pessimism. I speak reality into this.

Look at 2000 and 2004.

Romney is no Reagan who came close to sweeping the nation.

Pool after poll shows those bluest of blue states are too far out of reach for Romney - even with the bad economy and Obama at the helm.

Do you honestly think that Romney can win Illinois? Illinois? Puhleeze. Or New York or Maryland even?

Come on, be realistic.

Don't worry about us. Just do as your master tells you and mind your own business.

The way to win is with Santorum or Gingrich, and use the Bush 2000 or 3004 models.

Win the South and Midwest.

Then duke it out in Ohio, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado and New Hampshire and possibly pick up Michigan or Pennsylvania (if Santorum is the nominee)

If Romney is the nominee, I expect he will pile up electoral votes in states that McCain carried and he might also take some that Obama won in ‘08 when America really knew nothing about him. You can argue that his “blue” state delegates won’t matter in the general but he ought to get quite a few electoral votes in “red” states just by virtue of the R after his name.

Ask yourself this. If Obama couldn’t defeat McCain in certain south and midwest states last time, what has possibly made Obama more electable this time?

Rush Limbaugh spotted it in Michigan. Romney won the 7 districts around Detroit and Santorum ran a Reagan style campaign and won the other 7 districts including a couple places we expected Romney to win. (57 counties for Santorum, 26 for Romney)

Rush: Romney is winning like a liberal

Some follow up questions: (1) Will Gingrich or Santorum carry those blue states? Related to that, what do polls on those states say about Obama v. Gingrich? Or Obama v. Santorum? (2) Which red states would flip to Obama because Romney is the Republican nominee?

Take North Carolina for instance. Obama 49.7%. McCain 49.4%.

Does anybody really think Obama takes it this time around? Even if Ron Paul was the GOP nominee?

Now that's no reason to be complacent. However, the picture is not as dire as some make it out to be. Obama is very beatable this year. Even with a lousy opponent.

Oh yea, just like Dole and McCain, except without personality, service record, and no conservative credentials. That'll happen...

I'm not going to vote for a Democrat who runs on either ticket.

If Romney is winning only in heavy Democrat areas then why not just switch parties. Would save us a lot of trouble and heart ache.

Your title is apples and oranges. Turn it around and imagine the Dims are holding primaries. Someone would win those primaries in Deep Red states, but they’re not going to win in the general election.

For the life of me I don’t know how a President, residing over such a crummy economy his ENTIRE term, could be reelected. Americans have always voted their pocketbook and this election will be no different. Yes there is still a war going on but a complicit MSM won’t run daily reminders on how badly it’s going under Obama’s leadership. So our Dear Leader is stuck with A) running on the economy and B) demonizing his opponent. Not a very solid platform.

Obama will likely break 50% in North Carolina vs. Romney this time.
