LOS ANGELES (CBS) A Burbank woman was detained for 10 hours after taking a Southwest flight to Houston for painting her nails on board.
Jeanie Daniels was on the flight on Feb. 26 to see her boyfriend, Jimmy Hauser, who lives in Houston. Daniels was painting her fingernails in her seat when a flight attendant asked her to stop.
I said Im sorry, I apologize and I put it away, Daniels said in a phone interview. About 10 minutes into the flight I discovered I only had two nails left to paint so I thought, well if I went to the bathroom and did it, it wouldnt offend anyone.
She found another flight attendant waiting for her to exit the bathroom, and the began to argue.
She was getting so loud when I was sitting in my seat. I was like, just stop, and I was loud when I said (expletive) because she wouldnt end the conversation, she said.
Daniels slip led to her arrest at Hobby Airport. A Houston Police spokesman says the officers interviewed the flight attendant and a witness, then called the District Attorneys Office to ask if they would accept the charge of abusive profane language.
The charge was later dismissed by a judge. After more than 10 hours in jail, Daniels was released.
Southwest Airlines says they will not comment on the incident.
I am so glad I don’t have to fly any more.
You and me both. Unless I must be across the country the next day, I’ll drive. I get to actually see America that way.
I refuse to be treated like a common criminal simply because I fly.
Ain’t no way, ain’t gonna happen.
Southwest damn well better comment on it.
I have to go to Vegas later this month from my secure undisclosed location in the middle of the land of the USED TO BE free. It has been a long time since I was able to enjoy the drive, and stories like this one make driving more and more tempting.
Nail polish is pretty strong stuff to be using on a plane, toxic as hell, what if a guy wanted to do oil painting and clean his brush with turpintine? She hasn’t a brain in her head if you ask me.

ahh....another talented writer
Explosive fumes in near proximity to oxygen are not a good idea. Any odor of that type picked up by the flight crew is going to cause concern.
She might have inflamed the passions of some muslim who’d have gone sudden jihad on everyone because he was ‘offended’. / sarc.
Nail polish is an explosive.
Nail Polish is flammable liquid..

I guess they don't want customers seeing each others complaints and coordinating anymore.
I fly at least twice a month, sometimes more, and this is nothing compared to what I have seen go on. There are times when I actually wonder if the human race has much of a future. And mind you, air travel supposedly draws the HIGHER class of people.
I drove from the LA area to Vegas yesterday. It took me about three hours and 45 minutes each way. If I had flown, it would have taken me much longer to get from my home to Vegas.
Agreed. Stange chemical smells on an airliner are bad.
The headline is misleading. She was detained not for painting her nails but for the altercation.
