Short Bus's Obama Birth Certificate Defense Is Officially ZOTTED
The Stir ^ | 3/2/12 | Sasha Brown-Worsham

Posted on 03/02/2012 9:17:36 AM PST by Short Bus

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona is bound and determined to make sure we never forget the embarrassment of the birther movement. Most of us would love to put that ugly little racist blip in our history -- a time when conspiracy theorists and fools alike accused President Barack Obama of not being American. But Arpaio, a sheriff in Phoenix, Arizona, just won't give it up.

Can we say beating a dead horse, people? Sometimes it seems like certain politicians just do things to help out Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Bill Maher. After all, how else does anyone explain Arpaio's inane and insane assertion that Obama, a man who produced his birth certificate last year, isn't American?

See his ranting [here].

"Forgery or fraud may have been committed," says Arpaio. Ooooh no! Are ghosts and goblins real, too, Sheriff Arpaio? How about the Loch Ness Monster? Do you go visit old Nessie on your days off from enforcing the laws of Arizona?

In all seriousness, this is vile racism plain and simple. In a place like Arizona, it's no surprise -- after all, many politicians there (including Arpaio) hold rather Draconian views on immigration -- and it's disgusting. And it's getting old fast.

For all you doubters for whom book learning was apparently a challenge, here are the facts: President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu on August 4, 1961. He has produced both a certificate of live birth during the 2008 campaign and the long-form certificate last year. Neither has been disproved.

So why is this still going on? Arpaio seems like a joke, but, according to Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt, Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney doesn't think so. Yesterday LaBolt tweeted:

Romney has called Arpaio for his endorsement, his aides called "weekly" and Arpaio was his honorary Chair in 08.
That's embarrassing. The fact is, most people agree Arpaio is a few cards shy of a full deck, but here we are still talking about him. Is this an alternate universe? Why am I guessing this guy is the type of person who stays at parties hours after they have ended asking for more chips and guacamole? Dude, the party is over, the ship has sailed, and you are beating a dead horse.

Sadly, there aren't enough cliched ways to say IT'S OVER to make it any clearer to this guy.

"Pat is attempting to use his mind to direct the movement of soap-bubbles. He’s finding it very frustrating."

Explain to him that a reliable way to do that, without touching the bubbles, is to place your hand under the bubble, so that heat rising from your hand will lift the bubble in a small column of rising air, a thermal.

We cannot see these things, but I suspect that some birds can. Certainly they know how to find them, and ride them to great heights.

His success with soap bubbles may be more limited. This technique requires relatively still air, and rather warm hands. There are tricks to making your hands warm, but that's another subject.

“Catz of the Donner Party.” Reserve your copy today!

How are you today? We had a lovely party at church last night. Live rock music, Irish dancing, and even a bagpiper, who played a medley of Armed Services themes (Halls of Montezuma, As the Caissons Go Rolling Along, Anchors Aweigh, and Off We Go) plus “The Minstrel Boy.” Kathleen and I had a little *sniffle* and said some prayers for Sionnsar.

Rained again, second night in a row. The Epic Fail Lawn Service is going to have a hard slog through the back yard, but it has to be done.

We got about a third of an inch of rain, here, and about a foot of snow or more on Mt. Charleston. Our high for today is supposed to be about 50. At least the skies are clear. And no wind (so far!)

65 and very damp here. I’d like some wind - the house is stuffy.

T-C, your dampness should clear up in a couple of hours. According to the National Weather map I have linked on my about page, quite a bit of such dampness is on its way here.

Oh, well. Most of the roof works.

Yes, there are hints of sun.

Do you have a large umbrella?

I had to turn my space heater back on this morning as it was 64 in here.

In a while, if I can mooch a ride, I’ll go to Walmart. I don’t want to sit out in this wind and wait for a bus.

I don’t have to get much...I’m just out of everything I normally eat.

Good luck! Tom is starting “The 17-Day Diet” today, so we’re adjusting our purchases. It’s low-carb, like many other plans.

"Do you have a large umbrella?"

Does a tepid smile count for anything?

I put a sign in the company break room that read

Alferd Packer
Memorial
Break Room

It stayed up nearly a year before someone got the reference...

If one were to journey between the Alferd Packer site in Colorado, and Donner Pass in California, how many companions should there be in one’s party at the beginning of the hike?

“If one were to journey between the Alferd Packer site in Colorado, and Donner Pass in California, how many companions should there be in one’s party at the beginning of the hike?”

A better phrased question might be: How many started in Colorado, and how many were eaten by the time they got to Donner Pass?

And if you happen to get overheated on the trail, does that mean that you are ready to eat?

I’m back from Walmart. I had to take the bus home, but at least I was out of the wind. ;o]

While I was seeing about my glasses the other day, I wandered into Build-A-Bear, which was right next door to LensCrafters. And what do I see? A Kermit The Frog ready to be built, and he even has an opening in the back of his head so you can make his mouth move! LOL!

Next time I have $25 to spare (payday?) I will head there and get him. I haven’t had a Kermit for YEARS!!!
