FYI-—Meryl Streep won 2 Oscars: 1979 Kramer vs. Kramer and 1982 Sophie’s Choice, which was 30 years ago. Helen Hunt won the Oscar in 1998 for As Good As It Gets.

Well, it came down to watching the Oscars or organize my sock drawer and watch reruns of World’s Dumbest. Sock drawer and World’s Dumbest won.
Why not do the Academy Awards with computer graphics and everyone could stay home and watch themselves?
To: MasterGunner01
I thought it would be “The Help”, but instead it was “The Artist”, a silent movie comeback.

“I would rather have a prostate exam than watch the Academy Awards.”
Can’t identify with a prostate exam, but a root canal is more painless (for me) than tuning in to the Academy Awards. The self absorption of these people is monumental, plus 99% of them are dangerous libs, and just seeing them in any venut makes me want to throw something at the TV.

I thought it would be The Help, but instead it was The Artist, a silent movie comeback. "The Help" was pretty decent, but I never heard of "The Artist" until today. A silent, black-and-white movie? Seriously? That's the best Hollywood can come up with?

You said it. I am surprised that “ The Artist” WON anything.

Interesting that you would criticize something you have never heard of or seen. The Artist was absolutely one of the best movies of the year. It was 100% made in Los Angeles, and was actually wholesome. You left the theatre feeling good and that you just watched something really special and lasting.

Plummer had some great roles over the years and came up empty. The silly old fool decides to perpetuate the myth of repressed homosexuality and he scores the big prize. All so predictable. All so sad.

I guess I'm one a few around FR that enjoys the Oscars. It's usually entertaining and I generally like the people. You know, these people are usually politically wrong IMO, but isn't it nice sometimes just to get away from politics? I agree with Judge Robert Bork that our culture has moved too many things into a political arena.
Anyway, I think Billy Crystal is generally pretty entertaining and the Cirque du Soleil was great - and I did like the movie, The Descendants.

I almost never go to the movies. If you see me in a movie theatre, it’s almost certainly for the opera.
