IMO, this book is one of the most perfectly targeted book on any subject that I have ever read...because it described my ex-wife and mother of my children and their twisted relationship perfectly!
There is excellent self-help advice in the book...beginning with SAVE YOURSELF FIRST!

When they have been “invalidated” (could be as simple as having a different opinion) they perceive this as an excruciatingly painful intentional attack on their core being and they strike back...frequently without warning!
Thus the title of the book “Stop Walking On Eggshells.” Folks walk on eggshells around borderlines because they never know when they have accidentally pulls the pin on the grenade.
Marsha Linehan is a leading authority on BPD. Her workbooks are practical and written for an average (i.e., not academic) audience. She is a clinical psychologist with a solid research and practice background.
Is it alcohol or drug related?
My mother was one, so I can tell you there is no treatment or cure. I recommend that you and the other members of your family get therapy to cope with this - you have all my sympathy.

BPD are nothing but immature bullies without any level of self-discipline. Punch them in the nose and they tend to shut the hell up. People that cower to them tend to be their victims. The only thing you need to know is to stand up to them, call them out on their bad behaviors, and discipline them when they act out. Do so in a rational and mature way. Treat them like little children that need discipline because that is all they are.
