CHUCK NORRIS: Why I chose Newt over Santorum

In 2008 when my wife, Gena, and I were on the campaign trail backing former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for president, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was fighting to get former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney elected.
Just three years ago in his interview with radio host and conservative commentator Laura Ingraham, Santorum also emphatically told millions of listening Americans: If youre a conservative, if youre a Republican, there is only one place to go, and thats Mitt Romney.
Yet Santorum now admits that Romney bragged hes even more liberal than Ted Kennedy on social issues.
And the question that keeps coming to my mind now is this: How can the alternative to Romney also be a Romney supporter? (SNIP)
However, in light of the potential global clash outside our country with regimes like Iran and Syria, and the ongoing domestic assault within our country from the Obama administration, we believe America needs the best of the best veterans of political war to lead us forward.
We truly believe Newts experience, leadership, knowledge, wisdom, faith and even humility to learn from his failures (personal and public) can return America to her glory days. And he is the best man on the battlefield who is able to outwit, outplay and outlast Obama and his billion-dollar campaign machine.
(SNIP)
Its no wonder in January that Rep. Ron Paul accused Santorum of having a very liberal political record.
Im also bringing this up now because, if Santorum were to win the nomination, Obama will definitely bring this up in his campaign for the presidency.
And the question that keeps coming back to my mind about Santorum is: How can the alternative to Romney also be a Romney supporter?

Go ahead and post a stupid list of Santorums voting record...Ill then post a picture of Newt and Nancy giving credibility to Global Warming. I don't really see how a voting record is equal to a photo op, but knock yourself out.

We had Bachmann. We had Cain. But getting them to the finish line became in vein. They made mistakes and Cain had allegations thrown at him and fled the race. So we are left with Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum. And Santorum and Gingrich are okay with me. Can’t change the course with no brokered nothing. So for me, both are fine. I’ll take anybody but Romney and Paul.

What concerns me most is, this brainless stampede of voters who switch candidates at the drop of a headline. Bingo, we have had a dozen or more XXXXXX for president Woo! Woo!

Rick Santorum voted to raise the debt limit five times. ■FACT: Santorum voted to increase the debt ceiling in 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. Together, these five votes boosted the federal debt limit by nearly $3.5 trillion. (H.R. 2015, Roll Call Vote #209, 7/31/97; S. 2578, Roll Call Vote #148, 6/11/02; H. J. Res. 51, Roll Call Vote #202, 5/23/03; S. 2986, Roll Call Vote #213, 11/17/04; H. J. Res. 47, Roll Call Vote #54, 3/16/06; Mindy R. Leavit, The Debt Limit: History and Recent Increases, Congressional Research Service, 9/9/11) Rick Santorum voted for billions in waste, including the Bridge to Nowhere. ■FACT: Santorum was a prolific supporter of earmarks, having requested billions of dollars for pork projects in Pennsylvania while he was in Congress. (Club for Growth, 2012 Presidential White Paper #4, Rick Santorum)■FACT: The announcements flowed out of Rick Santorums Senate office: a $3.5 million federal grant to Piasecki Aircraft to help it test a new helicopter propeller technology; another $3.5 million to JLG Industries to bolster its bid to build all-terrain forklifts for the military; $1.4 million to Medico Industries to upgrade equipment for its munitions work.
But an examination of Mr. Santorums earmark record sheds light on another aspect of his political personality, one that is at odds with the reformer image he has tried to convey on the trail: his prowess as a Washington insider. A review of some of his earmarks, viewed alongside his political donations, suggests that the river of federal money Mr. Santorum helped direct to Pennsylvania paid off handsomely in the form of campaign cash. (Michael Luo and Mike McIntire, The New York Times, 1/15/12)■FACT: Santorum voted for the 2005 highway bill, which included hundreds of earmarks, including the bridge to nowhere, a teapot museum. (H.R. 3, Roll Call Vote #220, 7/29/05) ■FACT: Santorum supported the Bridge to Nowhere twice. Santorum voted for the 2005 highway bill that included thousands of wasteful earmarks, including the Bridge to Nowhere. In fact, in a separate vote, Santorum had the audacity to vote to continue funding the Bridge to Nowhere rather than send the money to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. (Club for Growth, 2012 Presidential White Paper #4, Rick Santorum) ■FACT: Santorum admitted he voted for bridge, and defended vote: People say that I voted for The Bridge to Nowhere. I did. I went with the federalist argument, which is, Who am I in Pennsylvania to tell Alaska what their highway priorities should be? (William Petroski, Des Moines Register, 12/29/11) In a single session, Rick Santorum co-sponsored 51 bills to increase spending
And zero to cut spending. ■FACT: In the 2003-2004 session of Congress, Santorum sponsored or cosponsored 51 bills to increase spending, and failed to sponsor or co-sponsor even one spending cut proposal. (Club for Growth, 2012 Presidential White Paper #4, Former Senator Rick Santorum) Rick Santorum even voted to raise his own pay. ■FACT: Santorum also supported raising congressional pay at least three times, in 2001, 2002, and 2003. (Club for Growth, 2012 Presidential White Paper #4, Former Senator Rick Santorum) ■FACT: Santorum voted three times in 2001, 2002 and 2003 to preserve Congressional pay increases. (Roll Call Vote #360, 12/7/01; Roll Call Vote #242, 11/13/02; Roll Call Vote #406, 10/23/03) Rick Santorum joined Hillary Clinton to let convicted felons vote. ■FACT: In 2002, Santorum voted to secure the Federal voting rights of certain qualified persons who have served their sentences. Santorum was one of only three Republican senators to vote with Sen. Hillary Clinton for the measure, which failed in the Senate. (S. 565, Roll Call Vote #31, 2/14/02) ■FACT: Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), who sponsored the measure, on the purpose of his amendment: Basically what this amendment does is ensure that ex-felons, people who have fully served their sentences, have completed their probation, have completed their parole, should not be denied their right to vote. (Sen. Harry Reid, Remarks on the Senate Floor, 2/14/02)

"The reason I like Newt is.....The liberals are scared of him and they hate him, the Democrats are scared of him and they hate him, The established Republicans are scared of him and they hate him, the Wall Street gang is scared of him and they hate him. We dont like any of these groups, therefore, the enemy of my enemies is my friend."
I like both Newt and Santorum. And I must admit, I like Newt for the reasons you've stated. ;-) Frankly, whoever gets the nomination will have to put up with the multi-billion dollar smear campaign that the O has in store...even Romney.
It is complete bull$hit to say Santorum isnt conservative. Likewise for anyone to say Gingrich isnt conservative.
Agreed. Sometimes I think people who post strong opines one way or the other for a candidate lose focus on the main goal by trying to trash each other...either that or they're (dare I say it) "liberal moles" trying to stir up the pot. =8-O (Eek!)
The point is: Everyone has flaws. Everyone makes mistakes. In a way, it's great how all these flaws are being vetted out and testing the candidates. I hope it makes any one of them a stronger and better candidate and, eventually, a better President. How people soon forget that even Reagan was a democrat at one point.

Fair enough. Let’s add that to the list: Item number four. anything else?
I want to quantify the enormity of the “way too much baggage” I keep hearing about... because it’s characterized generally in superlative terms, but I think an actual enumeration will prove a short weak list.

Amazing how we rag on Newt for sitting on a couch with Pelosi but forget that Reagan was a Democrat.
We point fingers at Newt for having previous marriages, but forget Reagan also had a divorce.
My point is that we are electing a President, not a priest.
If you want a perfect and pure leader, take yourself to the other side of the grave and enjoy eternity with the King of Kings.
In the meantime, vote against Obama and work to eject him from the Oval Office.

I have said that from the beginning. We all went to school with Santo. He is an empty sweater that we in high-school couldn’t figure out if we liked him or not. The guy that never took sides, the goodie to shoes, the guy that had to ask his buddy to get a look.! The guy that never has experienced LIFE!
He is no difference than Romney. He is a fake!
GO NEWT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. I don't want the government, liberal or conservative, to think their purpose is to control everyone's lives according to how they want people to behave in their private lives. Did you not notice that they are already doing just that? Food police inspecting sack lunches, and the people stand idly by.

WOW! You truly do know Santorum. Some of us gathered that ourselves, out of a strong understanding of realty on our own!
But thanks for that stark illustration!
