"As your nominee, I will not accept debates in the fall in which the reporters are the moderators," Gingrich said at a rally in Pensacola. "We dont need to have a second Obama person at the debate."

I am with you Brother.
If Obama refuses to debate , he will be there to respond with a rebuttal any time Obama opens his pie hole in a campaign stop.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
The One will be too busy running the country in this time of national crisis to waste valuable time debating some cranky old white guy.
Now if you’ll excuse Him, The One has a tee time to make.
There goes Newt being stupid again.
Newt scores when he has liberal commie journalists.
He can hit them for their obvious bias, and then pose the question they should have asked.
The stupid part is why do our guys even try to answer the media’s questions designed to embarrass conservatives.
I would just take any question and say, “What you meant to ask me, comrade, is how do I think Obama got his social security number ? Well let’s ask him. And while he is at it, he can show us his college transcripts too.”
Pretty much.
But if Newt sticks to his original plan, he could seriously damage Obama by highlighting Obamas BS fun and games.
I think this is foolish on Newt’s part.
He shines spectacularly when he’s being “questioned” by a liberal newsie. His ability to turn the dime on its head is unparalleled.
Also, it gives an excuse to Obama not to debate at all.
I don’t like this.
Amen, Newt.
WOO-HOO!
This means get serious people to ask serious questions.
No damn reporters and no damn news anchors!
Well, who else could moderate the debates? Librarians? Non-partisan types of SOME kind?? the American Idol panel?
This could be good.
Perhaps just leaders of citizens groups, etc. could step up to the mics.
It could work.
I rather liked Luntz’s recent interview where the candidates just stood directly in front of the focus group and answered questions ...it really brought out an entirely new dimension of each one of them (only SAntorum and Newt participated — obviously Mitt couldn’t be bothered).
As usual — Newt innovates!
Not at all.
This is a call to have serious people, like Dr Thomas Sowell, ask serious questions.
Enough of the TV news anchors asking their biased stupid questions.
How about C-SPAN “moderates” this type of debate — a citizens debate. People just come on in and ask the candidates questions.
I’d trust c-span to do it right.
It is possible, that Newt is playing the old rope a dope by acknowledging his past two debates were lack luster.
The perception was that Obama was shit scared to debate Obama when Newt was the king of the debate stage, but Newt hasn’t been performing as of late and Obama could get cocky.
Should Obama actually challenge Newt to a debate, I believe Newt would slay him.
Should Obama balk at a debate, I think Newt is wise to hound Obama at campaign stops with rebuttals.
I think he is just trying to lure Obama into a debate, making Obama think he is weak.
Not so stupid. Another way to look at it: you have a new home built. You find what you believe to be a number of construction defects.
According to your construction contract, you have agreed to submit the matter to arbitration, before or instead of going to court.
You learn that the arbiter is the local president of the county home construction association.
In the same way, the MSM is in the bag for Zero. We all know it, but pretend it isn’t so (except of course on FR). All Newt is saying is, “I demand a level playing field.” Good for him.
I don’t think requiring a `fair shake’ is asking anything unreasonable. “They” can find some impartial arbiters/moderators (acceptable to all—perhaps a panel and they strike off), or they can go pound sand.
Third base, in my view. They’re not “reporters”, they’re as the Brits call them “newsreaders”, and Newt could of gotten home with that accurate characterization!
Incumbents generally don't ask for debates, they grudgingly agree to them, and have the upper hand in setting ground rules. The challenger is usually lesser known, so the debates give the challenger an opportunity for exposure the incumbent would rather not give him.
Maybe Newt should blow off these GOP establishment primaries and start following Obama around now. I want to see how long this goes on before Obama tries stuff like not publishing his schedule, or getting annoyed. I bet the press would stop covering Newt.
I agree.
Therefore all I can conclude is that Newt is trying to lure Obama into a debate by telegraphing that he is skeered.
I don’t want impartial. Where is Baghdad Bob when you need him?
I want the reddest, commiest, most dishonest journalists out there.
Line up the dirtiest and dumbest they got - Rather, Maher, Stewart, Amanpour, Stephanopoulos, Gregory, Mika, Politico, Andrew Sullivan - that’s a whole baseball lineup there.
Newt will make them all whiff. That is Newt’s strength - taking them and their ideology on.
Newt does not have to answer any of their questions he feels are biased. Just ignore their question, and turn it into an Obama vetting probe. The one they didn’t do in 2008.
Conservative mods would probably be tougher on Newt than BO. They are all scared of BO.
Yeah, and Incumbents demand to be addressed as “Meester Persident” which in our culture is equivalent to “Your Excellency” or “Your Holliness”, that’s the way it is, as far as perceptions go, like it or not, and is lamely excused as respecting the “OFFICE” of the POTUS, but is no different than kissing the hand to the Pope, or kneeling before Kinbg George, whom, and whose rituals we like to think we had defeated 200 or so years ago, while we continue to lick the carpet on which the POTUS or former POTUS walks and spits.
That there is exactly the problem.
The GOP establishment is indeed scared of Obama.
I will deliberately believe that, because the only other explanation for their behavior for the last 4 years, is too horrible to contemplate.
