You have got to be kidding me, no bedside comode? What do they think she is suppose to do fly to the bathroom? A hissy fit would not even begin to describe my reaction if that were my mother.
Check the MD orders for one. If there isn’t an order, ask why there hasn’t been one written, then get one. If there is one, there better be some splain’ why there isn’t a commode there. When an MD writes orders, a nurse has to sign off on them reflecting that those tasks were achieved. The only way around this is if they show that they ordered one. But in the meantime they should be finding her a temp one.
Also, you have the right to have copies of her patient’s bill of rights, as well as a copy of their policies and procedures. How does the staff treat the clients? Ask to pay for a meal so that you can sample the same food your Mom is eating? Is there a calendar with daily if not numerous events per day? Meet with the activity’s director. What kind of activities can she bring to your Mom to provide social interaction until your Mom is mobile.
Get her a cell phone and charger. Plug it into the outlet by her bed. Then she will have a bedside phone. If you have an old one that is big and bulky, and doesn’t do text messaging, the staff will not be interested in stealing it. Sorry to say this, but it is the truth.

Just spoke to mother. She is in excellent spirits tonight - they took her to their in-house salon today and she said she looks like a movie star. lol Her hubby even got his hair washed and cut. Mother said he was quite dashing.
I had a lengthy chat with the director of nursing this morning early, so we’ll see how the treatment goes tonight. Last night she was left, shall we say, quite unclean for quite some time. Thus the call from my dark side to the d.o.n. and the unannounced trip I’ll be making up on Thursday.
She said her pain level is still quite high, but it is now limited to movement. Thanks so much for the prayers, FRiends! She has, many times, prayed for requests posted here.
