American Idol 2012--Live Thread

Yes she does, and she isn't an Idol IMO.

If I had the deciding vote every week and considering how things have gone so far, this would be my outcome today:

Week 7 Elimination: Elise Testone
Week 6 Elimination: Phillip Phillips
Week 5 Elimination: Holly Cavanaugh
Week 4 Elimination: Colton Dixon
Week 3 Elimination: Skylar Lane
Runner-up: Jessica Sanchez
Winner: Joshua Ledet

I choose Joshua because he has a harder row to hoe in the marketplace and I know great things are in store for Jessica (Skylar too!) whether she wins or not...this is my tip of the cap to the underdog. Sanchez is much better than Whitney Houston was at the age of 16...the girl is amazing. But what do I know? Well, I know that.

America will not vote this way. I truly believe either Skylar (who will absolutely deserve it) or Phillips (who absolutely will not) will win this year. I'll be happy for whoever it is, but I sure would like to see the highest quality folks win for a change. It's been a long time...Underwood is the last one I can think of who deserved to win from the time she stepped into the audition room.

You know who was really good this year? A guy named Creighton Fraker. Last year a monster singer named Kendra Chantelle made the Top 24 but they passed her over in favor of Karen Rodriguez and Naima. I think these initial choices by the judges boil down in part to demographics...it's a TV show with advertisers, after all.

I think Elise, Holly, Jessica and Joshua are in trouble from here on out. I think Phillips, Skylar and Colton may well be the Top 3.

I really don't have a problem with any of these contestants...you don't really see me snarking or being snide about them. I try to tell the truth about them as I see it. My comment about Elise just goes to an unfortunate look she carries with her most of the time...I bet she's been treated less than admirably by some people because of what might be perceived as a lack of graciousness. It may just be that she is socially clumsy. I know people like that...who mean well and can't pull it off. Also, If Holly or Phillips turn in the performance of the week on Wednesday, I'll be ecstatic for them and I'll stand up and cheer. It is beyond nerve-wracking to do what they do week after week. They are brave. Good for all of them!
