When they make the movie about the Costa Concordia, the cruise ship that grounded off the coast of Tuscany, there wont be romantic tales about its captain. Italian authorities immediately arrested him on suspicions of manslaughter and abandoning ship prematurely. He might have been the skipper of the ill-fated vessel in all senses of the word.

Just hypothetically speaking, in the age of complete equality what justification is there for letting women go first? Isn’t this actually an insult to their sex?
When there’s 200 people on a ship...fine. When there’s 4000...the object is to keep order...not line up by sex...
I really wonder how I would have acted if I’d been on that ship. I think I’d have put my life jacket on and made a swim for shore.
I would agree, but it doesn’t explain the treatment of the children.
Of course children have to be THE priority.
Unless you’ve been tested you really don’t know what your made of.
Well it would appear that Captain Spaghetti of the SS Upside Down is made of some very weak and brittle material.
This is a frascinating question to me. Someone was charged with the responsibility of picking someone to take charge of a half $billion mobile asset. I wonder if it was my job how would I make that decision?
Have him take psychological tests? Have psychiatrists interviews him? What did they do?
I would like to know the same thing. I know that the crew is populated with ne’er do wells and miscreants judging by some of the stories you hear coming from these cruises, but the Captain is supposed to be a top man. From reading the transcript of the Coast Guard trying to get this Captain to collect himself and get back on board to help save lives and the footage of this guy making dangerous grand stand maneuvers with the vessel, one can see he was lacking in the responsibility needed to keep passengers safe.
Did you mean to say:
I would agree, but it doesnt explain the treatment of the children burdens.
I suppose so. Hypothetically speaking. As someone who has been chewed out for opening a door for a female I mistook for a woman. I suppose it could happen. Theoretically.
Here in the US,the Coast Guard requires life boat drills before the ship sets sail. I read reports that this ship planned to do it after leaving port.
“I know that the crew is populated with neer do wells and miscreants judging by some of the stories you hear coming from these cruise”
Either that, or the cruise lines are taking on high school kids part time to pilot cruise ships during holiday break.
Fox News (Cavuto) played this little piece of telephone dialogue between the captain and the port authority:
Port Authority: Go, call me when you are on board. My air and rescue team is there. He is at the bow. Get going. There are already corses. Move!
Captain Schettino: How many dead are there?
Port Authority: I don’t know. One I am aware of. You need to be telling me this. Christ!
Captain Schettino: But are you aware that it is dark and we can’t see anything?
Port Authority: And what do you want? To go back home Schettino? It’s dark and you want to go back home? Get on the bow of the ship and tell me what can be done, and how many there are, and what they need. Now!
all have the best and most reliable captains regs too
anyone Captain who got his docs from the Brits..Norway...Dutch...German...or the US unlimited tonnage with passengers is likely to be on par same as the respective ships class
Italian class...Italian captain...nuff said
In the captain’s defense, maybe he doesn’t know how to swim.
Women and children first is GONE....thanks to the feminists who wanted to be treated EXACTLY like men.....well, this is what happens.
Children are now just chattel to be ABORTED.......this is the result of that.
