Man Accused of Having Sex with 13-year Old He Met on Facebook (W.Va)

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A teenager from Barboursville has been arrested and charged with soliciting a minor by means of a computer.

West Virginia State Police arrested 19-year-old Nathan Workman Thursday night. Click here to find out more!

According to the criminal complaint, Workman had sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on Facebook. Troopers say he confessed to knowing the girl was 13.

"They started chatting through Facebook and decided at one point to meet in person, and a sexual relationship started," West Virginia State Trooper Blankenship told WSAZ.com.

Blankenship told WSAZ.com the case involved search warrants and consent forms to read private Facebook messages between Workman and the 13-year old. She says the two had been chatting online for four months.

Workman also was charged with two counts of sexual assault and giving false information to a trooper.

He is being held in the Western Regional jail on $80,000 bond.

There is a gray area
Lets say he was 18 and she was 14. He was HS Senior, she was Freshman.. Is it ok? (Still a crime)

Now he’s 22 and she’s 17, College Senior and College Freshman, is it ok.. (It’s legal)

Now he’s 13 and she’s 15.. is it ok? (It’s actually still a crime)

I did have. And they grow up to be good girls. Served their time in their service of choice, and then got married and had kids.

But yes, you did advocate castration and forced man-on-man sex. And I don't see that as right.

And if my ex's grandmother didn't get married and start making babies at age 14, I wouldn't have those kids to brag about.

It's only historically recently that the ages have gone up.

You have issues. If you need to worry that much about your kid, you need to practice more at the range, and take her male friends with you.

And sit on a rocking chair, stropping a knife, or cleaning your shotgun.

For thousands of years, 13 was old enough for a young woman to be a wife.

Right up until the early 1900s, here in Texas.

The boy is in the hands of the law now, he will be labeled a sex offender and his life will be a shadow of what it might of been. The girl will have some issues also, nobody wins, somebody should of explained this all to them and why you don't do things like this before it happened. It sounds like a failure on the part of two families. I would of been much more judgmental if the man had been even older.

As someone who has spent many hours counseling young girls that have been fooled into sex by older men, I have seen what it costs the girls. And I find it down right idiotic to find anyone that encourages such behavior.

A thirteen year old, in today’s society, is not mature enough to have sex. Mayhap it was ok back in the day of the six-gun, and the wild west when the need for propagating was foremost, but not today.

You think that it's appropriate to advocate for castration of 19 year old boys and advocate for male-on-male forced sex, enforced by the state (in prison).

I happen to think my God wouldn't approve of advocating that. This conservative certainly doesn't.

Especially about a subject as open to debate as a 13 year old having sex with a 19 year old (Yes, it would be better if they were married).

But who am I to throw the first stone? I don't spend hours counselling young teenage girls. I just raised two good ones that have provided me with 5 grandchildren (no bastards).

I believe that West Virginia has a “Romeo & Juliet” law of four years. So neither of these cases would be illegal there.
