The above coin, which I photographed in its plastic container, was sent to me by my daughter who works in Saudi Arabia. She says that this is what Saudis give to each other as gifts.
I know some Freepers have lived and worked in Saudi Arabia and may know more about this coin.
I believe the inscription says "There is but one God and Allah is his name"
Good God, get your daughter out of that 8th century hell-hole.
Does it have chocolate inside?
Hope she didn’t pay a lot for it.
Ever hear of Taqiyya?
There is nothing like it on a bing search or on ebay,
That’s a Saudi Chuck E. Cheese game token.
I’d melt it down into a nice pendant. Several of them would probably be enough for a nice crucifix.
That’s a pretty nice gift.
What does it weigh?
“No matter where I serve my guests, it seems they like my kitchen best.”
Any knowledge of this coin?
Correct quote is “there is only one God and Muhammad is his messenger.” It’s on the Saudi flag.
I never saw these coins outside of shops.
I never saw a Saudi gold coin... but all the other gold was very yellow. this seems strangely darker In color
don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it is a gold coin. NO ONE in Saudi would dare sell fake gold. chop-chop square is usually found next to the gold sook (sp?). you’d be lucky if they only took a hand
oh yea... unless she is armed and working in the embassy, she shouldnt be there. even if she was staying in a western style compound (like the Arizona) it’s still too crazy for a western woman
Interesting...post & thread. Thanks.
Do you think it is gold?
That looks like you got one of the newer KSA guineas, as they call them in the kingdom. They are just gold coins worth a couple hundred here in the states. I picked up a couple while on some deployments, it has the shahada on the back and mekkah on the front actually. There are a lot of collectors out there who love those coins and you generally don’t find too many in coin shops although they make millions of those coins.
Very nice gift though.
2010 1 oz Gold Buffalo
Thank you for correcting my memory of what my daughter told me. She also was not sure if it was gold or not but the Saudi’s are very rich and it would be rather cheap of them to give anything other than gold. It can’t be for the tourists as there are no tourists.
This photo was taken just a few minutes before I posted without removing it from the plastic case - I assure you it is very light colored the same color as European 18k gold.
I’d hit it.
