On Tuesday they revealed the discovery of a collection of treasures on a pile of rubble at the pyramids center. Thought to have been given as offerings to the gods, the items include pieces of obsidian, pottery, animal bones and three human figures; one of these, a delicately carved serpentine mask, is so lifelike that archaeologists believe it may have been a portrait. The troves position within the structure suggests it was placed there before construction began, INAH archaeologist Enrique Perez Cortes said in a statement.

Three fingers?
I guess they needed a hand from the gods.......
I remember climbing those steps well.

Why would anyone put offerings, presumably with some religious connotation, on a pile of rubble?
Hard to fathom the ancient’s minds.
I think they did it so that someday you would type that comment.
We put mementos in cornerstones of public buildings. Some day they will be found and considered to be religious offerings...
That pile of trash was a shinning temple. Think of buildings on buildings, on buildings.

Same here. That was 30 years ago and I was young and in good shape. Two hundred tall, stone steps all the way to the top in thin (high altitude)air without pausing. It was not too bad going up, but coming down, my legs were shaking like Jello.
