What Christmas means to Christians..and why.
Yes,Josh was raised Episcopalian.
O, Holy Night and Silent Night are my all time favorites. Followed close by Mary Did You Know and The Gift (The Nightingales Song).
For whimsical I just love I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas.
It doesn't get much better than that.
I think I posted this one last year: Cherry Tree Carol- the Judy Collins version
I also love:
Sussex Carol and Wexford Carol
Noel Nouvelet
Here we come a wassailing
O come O come Emmanuel
Of the Father's Heart
Personent Hodie
Anything by Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Andy Williams.
I pretty much love it all--the religious and secular. I probably have at least 75 Christmas CDs, but I would recommend the following to anyone who likes traditional Christmas music in those two categories: 100 Best Carols. I ordered this from Amazon a few years ago, and it was one of the best purchases I've made. It's an EMI collection of original remastered recordings from some of the great British choirs, and is an incredible bargain.
Love it.
“Mary, did you know?”
Amen!
Beautiful video...love the costumes!
I share your opinion of Groban. I do wish, however, that he would dress better on occasion. If one is going to sing the National Anthem at the US Open or a baseball game, if one is as respectful and reverent as Groban seems, a sport coat might be the way to go. Especially given his height and bearing, that choice has much to recommend it.
Angels we have heard on High is my favorite. Also Once in Royal David’s City.
Here is my new favorite:
How Many Kings
by Downhere
Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe after all we’ve projected
A child in a manger
Lowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliest hero, wrapped in his mothers shawl
Just a child
Is this who we’ve waited for?
Cause how many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Bringing our gifts for the newborn savior
All that we have whether costly or meek
Because we believe
Gold for his honor and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he’ll suffer
Do you believe, is this who we’ve waited for?
It’s who we’ve waited for
How many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me
All for me
All for you
All for me
All for you
How many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me
All for me
All for you
RE: For Beatles fans..
HA!! I’ve played with these guys on and off for about 5 years.. They have, I think, 2 cds of this type of stuff - VERY well done! But...
3 of them are atheists! HA!!!
My favorite classic hymn for Christmas is “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”.
I have had a real problem for many years about the loss of celebrating the birth of the Messiah and the pagan rise of Santa. Here is a new song that is relevant to this issue.
Where’s the Line to see Jesus?
