In February of this year my older brother went to the hospital due to severe pain and swelling in one leg. Those doctors could not figure out what was causing the pain and swelling, so they sent him home to see his own doctor. His doctor could not figure out the problem either; mean while his other leg started hurting. He was sent to Houston for yet another set of test; still no results. His doctor and the doctors in Houston tried different treatments (medicine) to treat his pain. By this time he has used up his vacation, sick leave and disability time at work so they fired him. Last month he went to another set of doctors, this time in Temple, TX for more test. They determined he had anmemia and hyper or hyposomething (I cant remember) and asked him to come back this week for results of test and some more testing.
I received a phone call from my sister-in-law yesterday telling me the doctors determined my brother might have Myelofibrosis ~ which if not treated could lead to Leukemia. The ran different blood test and today did a bone marrow biopsy. Those test came back that he has Leukemia. Tomorrow the bone marrow results will determine if the type of Leukemia he has is aggressive or non-aggressive. If non-aggressive, he will receive a week of chemo and have to stay in the hospital for at least one month. My sister-in-law said she went blank before she could hear about what will happen if the Leukemia is aggressive.
Please pray that the Leukemia is non-aggressive and that my brother can be healed with as little as pain as possible.
Thanks, I know the place now that you mention it.
I’m gonna look up their donation policy.
Can’t have my blood going into some generic pool.
It’s cousins or nothins.
You are most welcome.
A note of caution: my mother had malignant tumors in her hip that were zapped with radiation. This weakened her immune system but she was so elated and fed-up with the awful nursing home food, that we all went out to dinner and celebrated the disappearance of the tumors.
She caught bacteria in her lungs at the restaurant which later killed her - no immune system to shut down what would have been harmless bacteria.
Keep him safe and close. The good times are coming again and patience is the watchword.
Good luck to you all, and God bless!
That’s good news, TheMom.
Continuing prayers for Tony and his family.
It’s sounding nice and positive for Tony, TheMom. Prayers continue for him and your family, as well as his healthcare providers.
I like humblegunner’s offer ... if it’s based on blood type (vs some special white cell match that’s required) let us know what type he’ll need. I think hospitals can do ‘exchanges’ so I could give here and M.D. Anderson would exchange for a credit to Tony’s blood account. Not an expert, but it seems some program like that is available for those distant from the patient.
Calendar says I can make it down there Tuesday AM.
I pray deeply for your brother that he may have a full recovery. I am so glad that he is in great spirits.
Thank you for the update TheMom.
Giving God all the glory and praise.
In Jesus’ Holy Name.
Amen.
Stupid Calendar.. THURSDAY AM!
Still on Dark Tower time, if it do ya fine.
He is in complete isolation now, and will be for at least the next two/three weeks. The doc’s want to make sure his immune system is 100% before they let him out. They also told him once he is released from the hospital it is straight home, with very little outside activities for the first two weeks (which will drive him crazy).
You will need to call and make an appointment. The phone number is 713-792-7777.
Thanks for the update Mom.
Got it, I’ll let you know how it goes.
Good news!
I was just thinking about him the other day (& praying too!).
Seems like there are a lot of sick people to pray for these days.
It is a special white blood cell match.
I will ask them tomorrow about the exchange credit. Thank you.
Hey, tell him not to worry if it happens because bald guys are sexy! Just in case, start looking for some funny crazy temporary tatoos to put up there to help cheer him up.
FReeper prayers are especially effective! God bless, and God speed!
Prayers continue....and a prayer BUMP.
That is Great news!
Thank you for the update. Continuing prayers.
I am so glad to hear this. Chemo can be rough. Prayers being said.
