It’s going to 26 tonight..No sunny 70s days in the near future!
I am grateful for warm socks and soft warmy nighties..

HAPPY TUESDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

There is a story behind this picture.

Always known as a photographer who would take almost any chance if it meant getting the picture, Gene Smith’s good luck throughout the Pacific deserted him on May 23, 1945. While on the east coast of Okinawa photographing an essay titled "A Day in the Life of a Front Line Soldier," he was seriously wounded by a Japanese shell fragment. The missile hit him in the head cutting both cheeks, injuring his tongue and knocking out several teeth. Characteristically, he was taking pictures at the time and the fragment passed through his left hand before entering his cheek just below the eye and near the nose. His comment in the hospital later: "I forgot to duck but I got a wonderful shot of those who did... my policy of standing up when the others are down finally caught up with me."

Ernie Pyle, another great war correspondent, who was on Okinawa with Smith and was not so lucky, wrote of him, "Gene Smith is an idealist, trying to do great good with his work but it will either break him or kill him."

Smith’s war wounds cost him two painful years of hospitalization and plastic surgery. During these years he took no pictures and whether he would ever be able to return to photography was doubtful. Then one day, during his period of convalescence, Smith took a walk with his two children and even though it was still intensely painful for him to operate a camera, came back with one of the most famous photographs of all time: "A Walk to Paradise Garden." This memorable image was to serve as the final picture in the famous "Family of Man" Exhibition.

Thank you so much, Meg. In the meantime, I searched and found some things Billie had sent me (thank goodness I kept some things) that told me about the frame, the picture and the snow which DID go last....LOL! I sent a sample to teenie via Freepmail but its getting late and I’m going to relax a while before I go to bed.

Goodnight and Sleep Well!

She lives north of Detroit, about 70 miles north..I know she has at least 3 blue bird boxes...All that I had read about them was to put the boxes quite a way from any building cause bluebirds can be picky, hers are close to the barn and close to the house..As I said she has several. Her boxs lids flip up and the parents don't seem to mind that she peeks in once in a while...

She was surprised that she had them nesting the first spring they put the boxes up and I told her they were too close to the house..I was wrong...LOL

In the past I have made a few simple bird houses and learned to make them so you can take the bottom off and clean them out after the season...I have a lot of house wrens, cardinals all winter which are beautiful when you see them flying across the back yard covered with snow...have snowbirds, goldfinches, about 10 different kinds of sparrows and once had a hawk eating a bird in my back yard. Every once in a while find some rabbit fur and know the hawks aren't going hungry...

About 4 years ago I just happen to look out the back bay window and had a flock of 7 wild turkeys about 20 feet from the house and heading to the barn...I was able to get a few pictures of them...In one area at the back of my property backs onto a cattail (marsh) They are so thick I haven't walked across that area. But every year a pair of redwing blackbirds return to the same area in the early spring and nest in the cattails...I know when they arrive cause the male for some reason donesn't like my bay window and smashes into it about twice a day until the female starts sitting the eggs...I am surprised he hasn't broken his neck. Then he perches on the railing of the deck and squawks...I don't know if he is telling others to keep away or just yelling OUCH..silly bird....

Have a great Christmas and happy new year and I love the animal pictures you post...always forward the kittys to my daughter and granddaughters...they love cats. GG

Well I wake up every morning and find I am still breathing, that's an accomplishment

My dog went deaf a little over a year ago but adjusted well, I had her into the vets Friday cause she is now going blind...My vet had called in a friend that is an eye specialist for animals to take a look at pepper. She either has an inflamed optic nerve, or a disease called SARD. It can make a dog go blind within 24 hours. He put her on steroids and antibiotics but if her vision hasn't returned by this coming Friday, her problem is SARD Its sudden atrophy retinal disease. (I think)

So I am hoping some of her vision returns. She makes it around the house OK but if something is out of place like a closet door left open, she bangs into it...and hesitates when going down the 2 steps to go outside. Knows where her water and food bowl are so has no problem finding her food. She is using her sense of smell a lot now...I have to put a snack right under her nose and without depth perception for the first time bit my finger taking a snack. She finds her way into my computer room and bedroom with no problem and still sleeps on her big stuffed chair at night but I guess I will never be able to rearrange my furniture, Her eyes reflect green when you look at them and that's not a good sign so I am just hoping for the best..She is getting along for an old deaf blind dog...Poor baby...

So that is my tale of woe. Outside of that I am looking forward to Christmas.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and happy new year....GG

That's a lot of mumbo jumbo at this point...lol. I watched a video but the guy talked so fast and clicked on so much that I couldn't make heads nor tails of what he was doing.

You have the pic in photobucket but then something at imageshack...what part is stored at imageshack?

I'll play with graphics and see what happens. Thanks for your kind help.

Breathing is good...! :)

Poor dog...one of those afflictions is bad but with both it has to be extremely hard. I suppose, like humans, they do adapt and their instincts grow stronger. Hopefully, at least some of her eyesight will return. Prayers for her, and you.

The holiday season seemed so far off but sure got here quick. Time really does fly!

A Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones, GG! May the New Year bring lots of Joy and healing vision to your faithful pet!

Don’t worry about understanding the commands..just do it! The snow graphic is last(Imageshack..)

The image is used in a table instead of the usual img src

The commands at the end under the imageshack table are basically cancelling the commands for each table..I sometimes put in too many</> commands but too few can really mess up a frame.
You can copy and paste my post on a notepad..change the graphic and change the width and height accordingly.(on both the image and the snow..) put the results in preview and see what happens.
Closing the brackets is tedious but necessary for it to post.

I copy and paste an old post I’ve made in preview..and change it. I don’t type out all those commands each time I post a new graphic.
My documents file is loaded..LOL I use notepad to store each framed graphic text.

Its amazing how she is compensating.

With her deafness, when I let her out at night I started flicking the garage light off and on and she knew on her own it was time to come in....don't know how she figured it out but she did it on her own...When she went deaf she was depressed for a while. (The vet I was going to at the time gave me some medication for a yeast infection in her ears...that medication caused her deafness.)

When I took her to a different vet cause the first one wasn't helping, I took the medication she was on with me and he was the one that told me it causes deafness in some dogs....I researched it on the net and sure enough, in some dogs it causes deafness. That ticked me off cause if she had given me the warning, I would not have used the ear medication.....

As long as she is not in pain, still eating and wagging her tail once in a while we will do great together...

May all good things be yours in the New Year....thanks for your caring about my Pepper....Shes a black lab

PS

I have 4 1/2 acres and we take walks around the property, so a couple of days ago I decided to see how she would deal with going for a walk...I just had to give a gentle tug to have her go the right and she did fine on the path. (probably knows it by heart), but she did miss the turn that takes us to the back yard. After we made that one turn, she was fine, but stayed real close to me..usually when we walk, its at the edge of the road and we walk single file with her in front so I know what she is doing. She didn't have enough courage to go out the full length of the leash, but I think all things considered...she did great....

Now don't laugh at me on this, but she is arthritic and my vet is licensed to do dog chiropractic and her walking is much better after an adjustment...We do love our pet don't we....:O) after her adjustment, the vet and assistant streach her like a human going in traction...I swear they can stretch her 2 inches then they release her and stretch her again.... :O) we will do fine...

All the 2 legged people in the family are doing fine...
