Our Founders Were Forthright About Faith
America’s Christian Heritage v Season’s PC

“The Commander in Chief directs that divine Service be performed every Sunday at 11 o’clock in those Brigades to which there are Chaplains; those which have none to attend the places of worship nearest to them. It is expected that Officers of all Ranks will by their attendance set an Example to their men. While we are zealously performing the duties of good Citizens and soldiers we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of Religion. To the distinguished Character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to add the more distinguished Character of Christian. The signal Instances of providential Goodness which we have experienced and which have now almost crowned our labours with complete Success, demand from us in a peculiar manner the warmest returns of Gratitude and Piety to the Supreme Author of all Good.”
—George Washington, General Orders, (May 2nd, 1778)

When it rains, it pours. :(

Just got a call to let me know that another of my cousins has passed away. She was only 55 and she died last night. Please say a prayer for Rhonda and her family.

Thank you.

I am going to Boston for a week to be with Mom.
Since she does not have a computer, I will not be able to post here for that time.

************************************************************ In todayÂ’s Jewish exegesis, the Pardes typology describes four different approaches to Biblical interpretation. The term, sometimes also rendered PaRDeS, is an acronym formed from the name initials of these four approaches, which are:

Peshat (פְּשָׁט) — "plain" ("simple"), or the straightforward meaning of a verse or passage;

Remez (רֶמֶז) — "hints," or the deep meaning beyond the literal sense;

Derash (דְּרַשׁ) — from Hebrew darash - "to inquire" or "to seek,” the comparative meaning; unraveling the midrashic meaning by comparing words and forms in a passage to similar occurrences elsewhere;

Sod (סוֹד) — "secret" ("mystery") meaning of passage, as given through inspiration or revelation

Levels two, three, and four of the Pardes method examine the extended meaning of a text. As a general rule, the extended meaning never contradicts the base or literal meaning.

In summary, Peshat means the literal interpretation. Remez is the allegorical meaning.

Derash includes the metaphorical meaning,

while Sod represents the hidden meaning.

There is often considerable overlap, for example when legal understandings of a verse are influenced by mystical interpretations, or when a "hint" is elicited by comparing a word with other instances of the same word. [Needless to say, my own preference is for the Sod method.]

************************************************************

The above is from Google ...

* We in America are often shallow and not seeking the true meaning of the verses we read and use our concordance and see the times words are used and what they mean/ relationships. It does expand our understanding.

The Jews have had the Scriptures longer than any others. Many have devoted their life to the study of their scripture. God veiled their understanding so that they do not read the New Testament. Their understanding of the old testament which is our foundation is excellent.

Interesting

Lovely, teenie.

I went to get my hair done and brought a couple of hot dogs home. I only had one and will have one for later.

I’m going to rest a few minutes and then do some cooking later and some tomorrow. I think my DIL is going to come and help me with my gifts. Just can’t do it all anymore.

Meg, I can sympathize with you. I made it to Addyson’s
little play last night even though I needed to stay home.
I hated to miss it and it started at 6. Those little kids
are so sweet. They had nice costumes, too. They had refresh-
ments afterwards. We had some fog when I was leaving the
church. It wasn’t too bad. Addyson played Mary.

Today is so nice and warm, I just wore a little cotton
sweater out today and it was perfect.

I’m gonna rest about 30 minutes and then do some candy and
deviled eggs and if I have time make my crab salad. I will
cook the ham tomorrow. You don’t have to cook it but I
thought I’d put the glaze on and cook it by the directions.
Barry is going to fix the little polski’s in the crock pot
that I usually do. He also will make the dip for chips.
Greg will bring the shrimp and cocktail sauce. I’ll do
the ham rolls and the rest. It’ll all work out.
