Rossi... visited the State House last week ...
Andrea Rossi made the trip at the invitation of the Senates minority leader, Bruce Tarr, a Republican from Gloucester, and met on Tuesday with representatives from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, and the University of Massachusetts.
....
At this point, however, the E-Cat is widely considered to be unproven. Tests have been scarce and secretive, perhaps because Rossi has said that his technology is still unpatented.
Andrea Rossi was invited to Massachusetts by the Senates minority leader, Bruce Tarr (left), a Republican from Gloucester. If it works, I want this technology to be developed and manufactured in Massachusetts, Tarr said of cold fusion.
... Last month, he conducted a test of a small cold fusion power plant in Bologna, Italy, for an unnamed customer, who he said was impressed enough to purchase the unit.
Rossi said he has received orders from 12 more customers.
Tarr, who is active in alternative energy legislation, said he invited Rossi to put the state in line for hosting any prospective development of cold fusion.
Knowing the reputation of cold fusion, I went in with a very healthy level of skepticism, he said.
....
Tamarin said the meeting was mostly used to discuss the possibility of setting up manufacturing, rather than the validity of the science.
Rossi said he was not ready for a full academic investigation of his technology because he doesnt yet have full patent protection, Tamarin said. Thats consistent with it not working, but its also consistent with it working very well.

Unfortunately, if Rossi did the following:
1) hired a bunch of actors to pretend to be the customer reps,
2) created an elaborate year-long special-effects-derived series of demos,
3) bribed, hypnotised or otherwise fooled Focardi, Levi, Kullander, Essen, Bianchini, Stremmenos
4) arranged for Piantelli, Miley and a host of others to try to fool the world into thinking that cold fusion was real,
5) got NASA, SPAWAR, The Defense Threat Reduction Agency and The Defense Intelligence Agency to say nice things about the field,
6) got Bushnell to make a fool of himself,
7) and convinced his former partners to set up another company called Ampenergo to pretend that they had a contract for The Americas for a substantial sum ----- or that they just did this with no proof because they have worked with Rossi and trust him because hes such a fine fellow,
8) sold his profitable company to his ex-partners in order to spend that wealth on a multi-million dollar scam; ----- certain that once he got all the above ducks in a row he would pretend to sell the first device ----- and then reel in the true target of his dastardly plan
9) and convinced a bunch of Greek crooks to set up a dummy company called Defkalion ----- to pretend to fight with him over the non-existent eCat, ----- to perpetuate the illusion and spin it off into a competing mirror-scam
[the second (this time genuine) buyer of a 1MW plant that will net him $2 million dollars ----- until they want their money back or sucker a $100 million dollar deal under the table ----- because he has experience in pulling the wool over all these idiotic eyes ----- and knows that they will just take his word for it ----- and not want to test if his 1MW plant can heat a small village without truckloads of coal or oil or a big fat electric cable coming into the container from beneath the floor (no you cant lift the carpet!) ]
10) and that, in order to pull this off, Rossi had to risk discovery by interviewing all the people he subsequently fooled so that he could only invite the gullible Professors and not the brilliant anonymous posters on the Internet who surely would have found him out
then, yes, all bets are off and Im with the guys who think that Rossi is an idiot and they are all geniuses.
One word: Madoff
Another word: P.T. Barnum
One concept:
Occham’s Razor
Rossi has such a con artist history, and a product whose ability to perform is fitful at best and even scientifically nonintuitive (it’s been averred that hydrogen to nickel fusions ought to be absorbing energy, not releasing it), that it’s surprising anyone cares at this level. I would not want to see any Federal program jump on this unless it takes the process out of Rossi’s control (except maybe for royalties to him if something that really works results in those independent hands).
So call me a seagull. I want some fish.
So call me a seagull.
***I’m not allowed to. The mods told me to stop. But I suppose they can’t stop you from calling yourself a seagull, which is ironic. Most seagulls don’t eat fish, they eat garbage.
Garbage... as in what people aver Rossi to be??? (That was too easy)
In natural state unspoiled by man, seagulls are stuck with fish.
Then you seagulls will eat Rossi and that will be that.
He’s a feast for skeptics alright.
Get the darn thing reproduced by independent hands, without Rossi there except to explain how to make it. I don’t give a hoot if the arrangement to do so gets Rossi filthy rich in royalties, but technical and scientific integrity insists on the independent reproduction. No more Solyndras! (And at least Solyndra’s product, if uneconomical, worked all the time.)
Get the darn thing reproduced by independent hands
***As long as Rossi has paying customers, he sees no need. I can see his point, though if I were in his shoes I might do it a bit differently.
Well my vote through my congressbeings is keep your hands off until he does or somebody else does. Not a dollar of my taxes to it in its current incarnation depending on the magician Rossi bending over it!
(Not a dollar of my taxes to it in its current incarnation depending on the magician Rossi bending over it!)
And, on the mood of the voodoo gods, which not even the black magic of Washington can pin down.
Not a dollar of my taxes to it in its current incarnation
***uh huh, yeah... I would be more convinced if such sentiment were directed towards the hot fusion boys with their Tokomak reactors that have produced a record of 6MJ in one run, all the while LENR averages 100MJ per run.
Insisting on perfection before refraining from folly is a fallacy as old as the hills.
And anyhow, I understand the Tokamaks are contributing to particle physics research. Maybe they should go to private hands (in this tight economy that would make a lot of sense) but if they fail, we have the tools in hand to understand why they fail. No ooga-booga!
Then why do you insist on perfection from the LENR crowd but give tons of leeway to the hot fusion crowd? It is raising the bar for one side while lowering it for the other.
I said it makes sense to give hot fusion to private hands. Let Rossi get a queue of private customers a mile long. Not a penny of tax from my pocket. Not until the process has the same quality of scientific scrutiny as the Tokamaks do.
LENR is contributing to particle physics research also. But not on your dime. LENR is better than Tokomak in that respect. It’s also better in the respect that it has generated only a max 6MJ per run while LENR experiments generate an AVERAGe of 100MJ per run.
Not a penny of tax from my pocket. Not until the process has the same quality of scientific scrutiny as the Tokamaks do.
***Tokomaks already take money out of your pocket, and they have delivered a whopping 6MJ maximum. LENR takes very little out of our pockets (Maybe SPAWAR?) and delivers an average of 100 MJ per run. The differences are utterly astounding but it does not stop the seagull brigade from doing their ‘business’ on these threads.
I don’t see any of these e-Cat fusions happening in a scientific milieu. Only in the milieu of a convicted con man. Until the thing has been shown a reproducible non fraud, I will tell Congress not to bother with any largess to it.
